Beginner Nitro - What engine for Savage?
 

I just bought a lightly used Savage with no engine. I am a complete beginner to the nitro world, but not R/Cs. I have an E-Maxx, but it breaking all the time made me give up on R/C for a couple years... but now I'm in need of an .21+ engine.

I don't really want specific engines to look for, but more of name brands. I want something that will be easy to tune, and hella hard to kill. Power would be nice, but I won't be too picky since I *may* be able to upgrade later, if I get lucky and things go in my favor.

Also, I may be looking at ebay just because I'm cheap like that, but probably only for new engines. Then again, if anyone has a lightly used engine... send me a link to the classifieds please. :cool: I don't completly trust people on ebay.


Worst comes to worst, you guys will get pics of an electric savage... A heavy one at that. :cry:

i got a reliable thunder tiger pro 21 bxr thats in my savage....ppops wheelies all over the place n all if u want i can sell u that...its barely used...wer bouts r ulocated?

or u can get an OS there pretty reliable and easy to tune but can be costly

if this is going to be your first nitro engine, then you'll probably want to just get an hpi engine. they are very easy to tune and provide lots of power. lokk into a S-25 or F4.1. you can get the rotostart also. if you want a pullstart , then maybe the K4.6. O.S. also has some great engines.

I'd be tempted to try one of the sh.28's

Or just get the HPI K4.6, it's a killer motor with lots of torque. I have 1 with at least 8 gallons through it and it still goes like a bat out of h3ll.

LOL ! wagonman ! my k4.6 went through 3 litres and went south straight out and would hardly pop a wheelie......its a crappy engine...i love my .21

This is quite interesting. wagonman72 says an engine lasts pretty long, ProudSavageOwnr says he killed it awefully fast. Maybe thats a good indication that the thunder tiger engine is durable. :lol: Talking about that engine, how much would you consider parting with it for?

Other than that, how are Ofna engines? For some reason I was eyeing those too on towerhobbies because I heard about them before, but I cant confirm this...

Nitrostart S-25 that came with the savages before the .28 was really a good engine.

wer abouts r u located dude? i bought it for $310 bucks AUSD and its around 6 litres old and still hard to pull wen u start it....its got massive amounts of compression left and i have fabbed up the carb from the K4.6 to fit this engine because wen i installed it with the stock carb i had to do alot of linkage work......how much will u be willing to pay for it? and wer abouts r u located? the only thing that is bad on the engine is a few grazes and scrapes on the top of the head thats all....just from roll overs n stuff


stick away from the OFNA engines ....there more for experienced tuners

sorry the attachment thingo the 2nd pik aint quite a pik its more like a mumbo jumbo thing wen my fone crashed LOL ! but the pik of the thing with the big wheels in the back is my dragracer ...well now ex racer....those are 1/10 scale monster truck wheels glued and screwed together for massive traction and i can tell u it worked....i managed to wheelie and snap both the dogbones in half in 1 go !!! :eek: i used to run the hpi savage ribbed pipe and if u want i can give u that pipe for around $60 dollars AuS i got it for 75 and its practically unused

I'm in Hawaii, and personally, I would be reluctant to pay more than $50US, which might cover all the shipping from Australia. ;)

I may just have to run by my local hobby store, and see what they have...

the xtm 24-7 pro is an easy to tune and has great power for the savage. I've been running one for 4-5 gals. with plenty comp. left. drops right in and is average $$.

I have about 4-5 running K4.6's they all make a gang of torque and last forever, just like the HPI .25 did. If you have problems with your HPI motors just contact customer service at HPI. The guys there are top notch and are always willing to help. The number is 949 753-1099

u reckon i wouldnt of done that already bro? i cant im in dam australia wer everything sucks ! i already called up frontline hobbies wich is the main distributer here in aussie and they said send the engine in along with the manifold and we can have a look at it (wich i aint gona do because the manifold is like BLACK LOL !) there obviously gona look at it n see all the burns n say argh dont even bother just send it back....unless iget a new manifold lol
