NITRO

How long is the shelf life on nitro. Such as Trinity or Traxxas fuel, before it turns to just a stinking oil base substance.

ProudSavageOwnr 03-22-2006 08:44 PM

itll take a few years for a gallon of fuel to turn into an oily substance and it depends wer its kept and wat temps are....if its in a sealed dark container in a dark and cool dry place wer sun and moisture cant hit it it can be stored for ageeeesss but u should not be using fuel more than 3 months old (recommended) but if ur crazy like dracy u can use 1 year old fuel like her did :weird:

Well thanks. That is probably why the maxx ran like a$$ the other day. That fuel has been in the toolbox in my pickup for about a month. I know that is not a good place to keep it. The wife doesnt like it in the house, and I dont hava a garage. Im lucky to keep the cars in the spare bedroom. She really gets mad when I start em in the house.

i had no other fuel PSO. and i needed to get rid of it (you cant throw this stuff out). my mom hates it when i leave it in my room. the fuel will be ok if stored inside for a few months but after that it will start to lose nitro.

crash21 03-23-2006 08:42 PM

Yeah, Thats kinda what I figured.

i keep mine in the house under my room....crash y do u start em in the house? wat r u mad? and little engines smallblocks n stuff dont like the old stuf like the big blocks...but i think its theother way around lol i havnt run my little .12's for AGES

I store my fuel in a closet and have had fuel over two years old and just shake it up and no problems. I have done that with O'Donnell's and RedAlert. although that is not my normal practice ( I was recovering from a major back surgery some rods and screws ) but the fuel still worked just fine.

jarrodh 03-24-2006 03:42 PM

holy , i guess i shouldnt have used that gallon or 3-5 year old fuel in my mad force then. the only difference i noticed is that it didnt quite have the punch or the brute power that new stuff has

lol

No, I just do it to piss her off. She is just to happy all the time. NO I really only did it one time. It was like 19 degrees farenheit outside and that may not seem that cold, but in Texas that is verrrry cold. It just ran it for a few minutes.

mine i keep for 1 year(actually 11mths), i just shake it, hard :flaming:
to mix back the fuel & nitro together and use it as usual. thats for bashing. but for racing. i always use new fuel  . leftover for bashing. the toher variable left, its yer tuning. :D :D
***me like dracy, dont want to waste the expensive fuel. use it while it still there. ;)
