Default HobbyStar leopard or Tekin

I want honest opinions on this and hopefully hands on experience as well.

These motors are the only ones that will fit so sorry 1717 lovers

HobbyStar 4092 1480kv

Leopard 4092 1480kv

Tekin 4038 T8 1350kv

I know price is one thing but quality supersedes all with me.

One of these is going in my 13lb lst lowest gearing I can go is 52/14 on my center diff conversion

I do know price is $69 $89 $158 in that order give or take $10

Hate buying wrong stuff so I’d figure I’d ask this time

Thank art

I have heard only good things about the leopard 4092 1480kv. Some say the leopard 4092 is even stronger then the 1717.

Yeah and I’ve heard failures too but I think those were operator errors.

The thing that burns me is the short wires on leopard motor where as HobbyStar has enough plus 6.5 connectors which I currently use Tekin is make your own but they give you
Enough

But my esc is right next to motor so I guess Id be ok

Btw: my current motor is a toro x8t 1550kv temps now with 52/14 gearing 140’s

The 1480kv isn’t much of a drop to put a bigger pinion on

So is the longer can size that much of a difference?

I’m not all crazy extreme but need the tq to be able to move this truck
With trencher x’s.

I only run 5s so maybe a 4082 1600kv would work?

What truck are you refering to? 13lbs is less than my e-maxx so you should manage with a 82mm long motor. I am not sure about 5s though, I have read that 6s is the way to go for 1/8 scale trucks. 140f is 60C and that is not so bad, max recommended temp for these motor are around 75-80C. Do you run heatsink and fan on the Toro motor? I am not sure your temps will become better with a smooth can motor like the leopard, on the contray it may be higher. A HW heatsink or yeah racing heatsink is mandatory on these boat motors.

Lst and that was without battery so maybe 15lbs with 5s polyquest?

Don’t get me wrong the toro x8t is nice but I think I can do better with my selection.

The Arrma guys run there kratons 9-11lbs geared 46/20 not sure what there final drive is but they run 140* range on 6s

I also read that the HobbyStar is equal to a leopard?
And it has cooling fins

I run one fan on my toro no heatsink just the fins on the can

The Tekin is a 4277 size can but is 200 kv less than my toro.

I hate being undecided on this but I created the truck and kinda paying for my creativity lol!

I thing I’m gonna go after the leopard v2 4282 1680kv I doubt the 1550kv vs 1680kv is going to be to drastic
