As the title states, I want to get my boys into rc. It's been a few years since I dabbled so I don't know much of what's out there today. I really don't want to buy some disposable box store crap if I can help it. I know they will be running into walls, trees, and whatever else is in their way so I'm guessing something beefy. Thoughts?

Well no RCs are indestructible, but the Ecx amp mt and Dbs look nice.... They are beginner friendly and high quality. They include everything..... And not to mention horizon hobby support!
No, minis aren't usually the best for beginners. They are somewhat more fragile, and the parts are that much smaller. 2wd is the way to go with beginners who want minis, but sadly there aren't many options. Def go with a 10th scale Ecx

Perfect. The price is right as well. Cheers.

take a look at losi micro T, they are cheap, solid and fun!!!
around 8 years ago, I bought 3 for 100$.
we had fun in the house with them and we never broke anything.
we were setting up a track with jump (small book) and we were racing.
my son and I had a great time and we had those micro T for like 2 years.
at the time my younger son was probably 4 years old.

The Dromids 1/18 are a decent start. Hold up far better then I'd ever guessed before owning one, I own 2 but I'm responsible for repairs on a third. Steering servo not the best, but 4yr old wouldn't notice. Only real issue is too small for most off road surfaces.

Latrax Rally we have an onroad carpet track locally and the have a class for kids, they beat the heck out of those cars on the pipe, wall and hitting each other. The only part I've seen broken is the diffs, due to the kids never getting off or the throttle if the car goes airborne

My son's friends come over and run the track in our back yard and run Dromida MT4's, ECX Torment 1/24, and EXC Roost 1/24. All seem decent and fairly tough. Cheap and fun.

I'm surprised that the Dromida's are holding up for you. I always see them in Tower Hobbies scratch and dent section. There's literally 79 of them in there right now. Mostly for damaged esc. I'm glad you're happy with yours.
My vote for a 4 year old would be a crawler.

Seriously guys, an Ecx 1/10 scale amp would be perfect. Cheap, tough, still fun, upgradable and parts are carried at most lhs's
