Anyone experience this yet on their mini 8ight?

Nope. But now you've got a good excuse to buy a better motor
Did you do that running the stock battery and gears?

3s lipo stock gearing.

Oh. You probably already know what caused it but I'm guessing too much load on the motor due to too tall a gear ratio causing it to get way too hot. When I was looking into getting a 3s for my mini 8ight I was told that I'd need to get a smaller pinion gear to keep the motor temps down. I never did go the 3s route because I've been content with 2s but probably would have went with a 12 - 14 tooth pinion if I had.

ppsshhh 3s stock gearing all day here. I check temps and don't run long though.
I do have a problem with my wheel nuts backing off.

Hi,
We were bashing again with the Rustler and Mini 8ight. After a low speed head on collision between the two, the Mini 8ight suffered a broken front gear box (top cover) - the plastic part that mounts the shock tower ripped right off.
Searched for RPM gearbox - no dice...
Other than a replacement stock gear box are there any other alternatives available for the Mini 8ight that would be more bullet proof and reasonably priced?
Or is there some kind of a brace to keep the front shock tower from bending backwards in a wreck?
Thanks!

I've been using the metal after market wheel nuts that come with Teflon or some sort of polymer on the threads and I've never had one come loose (knock on wood) yet.

It's not cheap and I don't know if it'll hold up any better than the stock gear box but seems like it would. The part number is M8012GM.

Thanks! Looks like this is an expensive bashing car to maintain.
The shock tower on this car is protruding up high; if the car flips the front tower is the first point of impact. Only thing holding it in place are the two screws mounting it to the gear box. If I replace the gear box with aluminum version then I'm thinking the break point would move to the shock tower which is even more expensive that the stock gear box.
There may be no way around this one.
