Mini-Z MA-010 HELP!!! Forward stopped working
Hi Everyone,
I recently got into the Mini-Z addiction. RC is not new to me. I own a Revo 3.3 and several electric helis I built from kits. I consider myself savvy when it comes to DIY things.
I recently decided to see what makes my Mini-Z tick and disassembled it. Upon doing so I upgraded some wired to thicker gauge and cleaned out my POT due to some glitching. I do not run the 2.4g version. Replacements consisted of wires to the POT, wires to servo motor, power wires to the board and motor wires. I removed entirely the power switch and the brass connection that linked the battery connectors to the board. After reassemble I smoked my stock 3010 FET that controls forward. The reverse worked fine. I might also add I am running an atomic mods AWD ball bearing motor AWD013
I figured now was as good as any to upgrade and stack some FETS. I ordered the 8962’s for a 2x3 stack on my MA-010 chassis. I watched the tutorials and am a pretty good at soldiering so I attempted the procedure. Everything went smooth; I confirmed continuity on all the stacks and no cross solder joints. Board pads were all fine and from what I see, it was a success.
I then fire up the car once more, forward worked for all of 2 seconds and then poof again it’s gone. My reverse still works like before though. I assume the bottom FET on my stack is smoked as I saw some white smoke emerge. Why do I keep burning up forward FETS only???. The stock setup worked fine until I upgraded the wires and removed the power switch. Any thoughts? I should have left well enough alone.
Thanks everyone.

That's an interesting problem, and not a unique one at that -- Mini-Z electronics tend to fry forward more than reverse and to be honest I don't know why (perhaps some electrical engineer has figured it out but I ain't heard about it yet).
Here's another guy who's got the same problem as you:

Perhaps you'll want to email him for updates, he's got the same AM board and exact same problem.
Also, if you feel like testing your next set of FETs before installing them, you might check out this particular little gem:

Ah, one more for the record: 4562 and 8858 are more popular than the 8962, you might want to try those instead.
Sorry I can't be of more help, but good luck.
