I used the spy my first season in my M18. It was good as far as use. It always worked. It doesn't have many settings. I still have it as a back up. If you are just looking to upgrade a stock esc, then its great. If you want to race I would go with the tekin B1.

You are not going to get huge gains from just a speed control. You will not regret the B1. The spy is an entry level esc, just a step over stock.

The biggest thing I noticed with the B1 is that you have more settings and the throttle seemed smoother.

If you just want speed look into a brushless system. You can get a mamba sidewinder combo for a little more than the b1. You get a brushless motor and speed control. It's a brushless setup, but you can also run the esc in brush mode if you still want to run a stock motor.

All in what you want. hope this helps

the spy was a great esc. Hotter(faster) motors cause them to shut down (thermal)
you will be better off w a B1....

If you're talking about how a brushed ESC feels, then you should go with a Mongoose as it is sensored and feels more like a brushed ESC. If you just want to go fast....get better batteries and/or motor. An ESC only delivers the amp (if the battery can put it out) that the motor is drawing based on how heavy your finger is. The ESC is merely a conduit between your battery and motor.
A good ESC will not make a slow motor fast.
