1/18 Scale What Choices do i have for offroad ?

Like the Title says.
I did 1/10th offroad and 1/10-1/14 onroad.

Recently Downgraded to 1/18th for onroad indoor carpet. (M18)

I now am in seek of a 1/18th offroad to replace my 1/10th offoroad.

The ones i seen already (and caught my attention) are:
Mini T
RC18T R MT
Losi Crawler

I am not into offroad that much but i like to have either a Bashable offroad or RockCrawler on hand, But in 1/18 scale (Saves alot of space)
And i prefer to stick to platforms that have lots of conversion options.
Any idea and advice what else is out there ?

There are a lot now days... I'm sure I've forgotten a few, but here are the ones I can remember:

- Xray M18T, MT, Pro
- Duratrax Vendetta, ST
- Kyosho Mini Inferno, ST, 09
- Losi MLST series
- XTM Rage
- Trinity Now
- Cen MG16

Other Crawlers:
- Duratrax Cliff Climber
- Hot Bodies Mini Zilla (discontinued)

My favorites are the M18T series and Vendetta series, with Xray holding the top spot. M18T's are just a joy to drive, even totally box stock (rtr). The parts quality is second to none and they are the most agile of the bunch.

The vendettas are also great, but they come in second solely for the fact that they require upgrades (ball diffs, steel cvd's, new electronics) before becoming reliable. Once upgraded, its hard to find a better driving, smoother truck/buggy.

As rschoi_75 suggested there are just so many options out there, and maybe instead of seeking a simple answer perhaps you need to slow down and read all the threads in the forum. Decide what you want to do, race, just bash, rock climb, whatever, and go for it.

For the Xray M18MT vs M18T
Whats the difference ? the images they show on thier website is identical.
Both seem to be 4wd or Awd ?

The M18TMT has two set of shocks front and rear, no sway bars, larger tires, and a higher slung body.

The M18T has one set of shocks front and rear, sway bars, smaller race tires, with a low slung body.

Both are 4wd and come with the same equipment otherwise (except the M18T Pro).

Oh i already have a racer =D

I know 1/18 rock crawling i dont have much choice if i am out for parts.

but the 1/18 offroad selection is huge ... I am trying to the the choice of the offroad smaller so i can pick.

This offroad vehicle is solely for bashing around my block or back yard.
Racing wise is been taking care of with a M18onroad.

M18T
and
RC18T
and
Vandetta

Both seem to be all in par with each other in build quality and parts availability ?

I like the Vendetta or the ST both very durable and accept full size servos.

nutz4rcyktw 12-17-2008 07:12 AM

Realizing the electronics except for servo in Vendetta and ST leave a lot to be desired; they are great. Very durable, ST has a fast motor already in it. Lots of ways to set up the chassis. I have run six cells in row on left for oval and I have used a Mini T 4 and 2 six cell for off road.

Does the Vandetta have any Coversion Kits available or its only manufacturer parts based ?

Similar to exotek, pinguingrc, Motek, Tekno etc etc

Nope... I'd say about 70-80% of the decent hop-ups are made by Anderson (the original manufacturer) and sold under the DTX, LRP, FTX, or Yokomo name. Duratrax (or LRP, if you're in Europe) will have a woven c.f. chassis for the detta in late jan 2009. I will be getting a few of those!

The only 3rd party companies that make upgrades for the detta are 3racing, gpm, atomic, and recently Driven Productions.

There is a factory Team edition of the LRP car coming out.

Hummm as a prefrence,... which would make a better off road basher ?
at this scale. Buggy or truggy or Truck ? I just realized their suspension are completly different from each other. The Buggies then to have an angled front suspension travel. where as the trucks have a horizontal travel.

I used to bash around a Revo which was fun.
I know in the smaller scale the Wheelies and Jumps handle different.
But which type would make the better basher to zoom around with.

I am eyeing the RC18T RC18B Vandetta buggy/truck M18T

Any ideas ? for this task ?
Note i already have a RC to race with i just want this for basher with upgrade options something easy to maintain with lots of support and affordable.

Get the Vendetta ST. Sealed drive train and tough suspension. Great handling too.
