RCP track
#2
ive run my M18 on RCP before, it works well. Not sure if your looking to make your own track? or what. RCP can get expensive fast. I remember one of the other guys on here looking to make his own basement track and just ended up gettoing some ozite carpet (rc standard) because it was cheaper than getting RCP... plus you can uses compund on ozite, whereas it will eat RCP tiles...

Not big enough for 1/18th scale. I have two Wide L sets plus some blank tiles to widen the straightaway and its still tight for 1/18th.
My garage is not a full two car garage and I can get both Wide L's setup plus the wider straight and my M18Pro feels overpowered even with a stock motor.
I started running my Losi Micro DT on the RCP with my son's this year and that was more enjoyable.

1/18 on Mini-96 would not be much fun at all.

for it to be enjoyable for 1/18, the lanes have to be at least 3 tiles wide, and the track should overall be at least 30x15 i think, thats probably way more than 96 tiles..

This is the layout we ran at last Year's ALS charity race. I wouldnt reccomend anythign smaller than it for 1/18th's. This was about a 9 sec. lap for me with an M18, 180 motor on 5 cells

A lot, that was a custom layout, if you count, its 90+ tiles for the start stretch, and the next straight with the chicane alone, so id say your looking at at least 3 of those 96 tile setups...
you may want to look into getting ozite carpet, it could be cheaper, and alot more flexible on layout options (you create your own)

2 or 3 Wide L Kits and 2 Expansion packs would make a nice 1/18 size track.. We have alot of RCP here in Phoenix and we have set up some big tracks for our local racing series..

I would recommend at least 3 side sections and maybe a 4 wide straight. It would be good for stock racing for the larger cars..
I saw another video somewhere of a bunch of 1/18 trucks running in a gym on a four wide track with jumps and woops, etc.. It was very fast for stock 1/18..
I also was on MZR and saw that they were selling the RCX track for 600$.. That is a great deal on a large amount of track. Similiar to how I got my track.

Go to pep boys and buy the anti-fatigue mats (same material as RCP but not as good). They cost 15 bucks for 24sqr feet. For mini z I felt that 100sqr feet would be the minimum I would buy, so with 1/18 you would want a lot more. You want the smooth side for racing. There are other stores that sell them, but none of the other stores sell the right ones, or they cost too much. Sams club for instance sells mats without the smooth side (which are pretty bad), and target charges twice as much. So you really have to go to pepboys to get them or you can order it online for a bit more money at getrung.com.
Unless you’re pro, I honestly don’t think they are that much inferior to RCP. They might require a different setup though. If you want the cheapest track timer for about 4 cars you can use the wii sensor and remote (provided you already nintendo wii). There’s a French group making free software for it. It’s on beta, but I hear it works good… I’m going to test it out this weekend.

600mmx600mm 2ft x 2ft foam tiles (same material as RCP)
roughly 300 tiles will give you a track about the size of the one in the vid.
3tile wide lanes is a good size for up to 6800kv motors in 18th offroaders.
Cheers All

Attached is THIS year's ALS Charity Race layout and it has Gary (one of our team members) in the background for scale.
