Bringing 1/64 Hobby Grade Racing to a Reality!!!
 

Hi all, This is my first post here on RCTECH. I have this project posted on a few other forums and RCTECH was next on the list. I built a 1/64 scale on road car today. Its sort of based on a RC12L3. Not really, It just has the same chassis shape. It runs a ZZ rear axle and front knuckles.
Overall wheel base is 1/16 longer than a ZZ. Suspension for the car I hope will come from chassis flex. If needed, I can add a single shock in the rear. It will also sport a bigger more strong 6mm coreless motor. A little comparison. One of my ZZ wieghs about 32 grams with the stock NIHM battery, my------(not sure what to name it!) weighs in at 11 grams. I guess I should start on body plugs. This could be sold as a kit if there is interest. Im not really sure about pricing. Depends on what cost will be for molds and other pieces I have to contract out. If there was a way for me to do injection molds here at my shop(garage) I would and prices would be cheaper.

As for RTR or just kits- If this goes into production, it will be available in just kit form in the begining. Im trying to find someone good with building a rx/tx setup for what I want. The problem with what Im running rite now is the system is around 200.00 just for the radio equipment. The built in esc in the rx doesnt have reverse either. This isnt a problem for me, Im used to the no reverse rules in racing. For the regular knock around person, they will want reverse. RTR kits will depend on radio equipment. Ideally, Id like to keep cost of a full package between 100-150.00! It sounds like alot to even me, but you have to remember I am designing these for full race kind of as if there were more in existance and they have to be comp ready. Evrything will be replaceable and upgradeable. One thing with this car being driveable right now is I realize I have to change my motor setup in the 64b and 64t.

nice i was thinking of converting a slot car to RC but i decided i couldnt get the voltage needed from NiMh's... how fast does it go? what kind of electronics are you using? and is the car its based on a 1/64 aswell? it looks really nippy, so what batteries are you using?

Actually, the car is losly based on a RC12L3. Some of the parts came from a zipZap car sold by Radio Shack. The electronics I am using in the prototype are micro plane elecs. It uses a 50man Full river Lipo. It is actually pretty fast. Parts are planned to be made from T6 aluminum. Then anodized to a color. The car is in its second stages of development, and is getting drawn in CAD and SolidWorks programs. It uses a 6mm coreless pager motor.

I am also talking with a few electronics companies to help design a system small enough for this car. I am highly considering a IR setup for this to be available for the same release date of the car. IR has its advantages and disadvantages. For me, it is just a cheaper way to get elecs available to you for the car before I spen alot on getting the RF rx/esc combos built. RF rx/esc combos can be available for 75.00 per rx. I am planning on releasing this car for the price of 60.00-70.00USD. Dont be fooled by the price. This will be a very high quality, Hobby Grade RC car. I am also working on both a off road Buggy and Stadium Truck....

I have been following your thread on the rc universe forum and really like what your doing. 1/64 is a little small for me but your work has been making me consider a custom 1/32 car using some of the Micro-T parts and hop-ups, if only I could get a 1/32 ball diff but that would be another thread. Anyway I just wanted to compliment you as the great job your doing building this from the ground up.

Thanks buddy! If you give me a few months, I may be able to help you with the 1/32 scale stuff! ;) First I have to finish the off roaders and drag cars in 1/64 scale.

yeppers.. looking at the spec on youtube.. it is too fast for that... maybe a small driveway.. or garage

I've seen this bad little machine run. Proportional steering and throttle.... WAY too fast for a tabletop! Traction seemed good and it flies, but the surface has to be pretty smooth. It ran for a long time, too! Can't wait to see two of them run with bodies on. Way to go M :nod: :tire: att!

wow that is really sweet it would be awsome to make a really small track for them. i have wondered about trying to hop up a zipzap with airplane electronics and a carbon fiber chassis but that is way cooler
