duratrax ice....up to 4 cell lipos....This is what I use. Works great.

depending on the packs you plan on using they may come with a balancing plug. You can get lipo specific chargers with these balancers. Different pack manufacturers use different plugs.......
Is it important to balance your lipo pack......you will get arguments from both sides on this.......
The rule of thumb is to charge at 1c or below.....ex 2000mah pack charges at 2 amps or 1c. So charging a lipo takes at least an hour......

I love my ICE. It's one of the best all around charger's out there. My only gripe is that it only takes 12VDC input and not have an AC input option. My ghetto solution versus getting an external power supply was to buy a 12V car battery due to the high Amps it draws. The portability is great when out at the track with no AC outlets to plug into and I can recharge the battery by jumping my car's battery for 10 minutes through my alternator.

I'm interested as to why I should since they are new? I am not debating but rather trying to get as much knowledge on this as I can...

When you charge a lipo whether it be 2 cell 3 cell or more the balancer can see when each cell peaks.....controlling the charge to each cell. Being that Lipos have a notorious history of being unstable it makes sense to charge this way. Right now I use my ice and charge at 1c and under. I also use quality packs. I have friends who have been charging lipos with the Ice for about 2 years with no issues and im copying there method. I use Apogee packs.

I understand that this would be a great way to protect your investment. I run 2 seperate packs which I charge at least 3 times each on a given day. Any specific name brands I should look into? Sorry for being off-topic...

The reality is there are only a few actual makers of lipo cells (all in asia).
I chose Apogee based on the quality control they use on the packs they sell and the performance the packs give. (high discharge and life of packs)
Apogee packs come with the balancing plug.
I believe when looking for a lipo charger the packs play a large role in the success of the total process.....

That charger looks great. Too bad no cell balancer.. (Or is that a further option? Saw nothing listed)
