Default Questions regarding Lipo storage

I have a Maxamps 6000mah 3s and a 2s. For a while now I will be running them very little due to work and family obligations. I know if they are stored over a month they should be left at least half charged. What other advice would you give? Is it better to charge them anyway every once in a while? Same question about nimh too. I want to make sure they last over time. Thanks in advance.

Your on the right track..if they are going to be stored for more than 3 weeks put them to half of their rated capacity and then cycle them at least once every 30 days. As for the NimH packs watch the a bit closer as they will lose voltage a lot faster.

Jason,
Can I actually fully charge them and leave them in that state? Mine's a 2S 5000. Thanks.

If they are going to sit for 3 weeks or more they need to be put at 50 to 60% of the packs capacity. 2500 mAh

How many volts is that? My packs are never fully discharged, so I'm not sure how to measure 2500mAh. I'm using the 0606i.

You can't base it on voltage because you could have less than half left for capacity and still have good voltage. If you flip thru the screens on your charger it will show you what your pack capacity is at while the charger charges. You would need to run the pack to the LVC point and then charge it back up. When you see 2500 mAh or a bit more back in the pack shut it off.

Dumb question maybe ....Using the Hyperion 0610inet charger, is there a way to connect my battery (5s 5000) to see how much Mah's are in it at that moment ??...what I'm doing is using "store" mode... i takes my batts to 60%...is this 60% of what it was when i connected the battery??....or 60% of the total capacity of 5000 ??....so in other words should i fully charge my battery to 100% first, then use "store" mode to bring it to 60% ?? or can i use "store" mode at any time and does the charger know to store it at 60% of 5000 mah ??.....LOL,am i making any sense ??...basically i was told to store my batteries at about 50 to 60% of capacity if I'm not gonna use them for 3 or 4 weeks so i was wondering if theres a way to check my batteries capacity ....thanks for the help

No there is no way to determine the packs capacity by just hooking the pack to the charger. As far as store mode goes it's best to start with a discharged pack and let it charge to that 60% point. The charger doesn't have per say a dis charge mode. It will however discharge through the balance taps at .3 volts which takes a long time. That's why I suggest you use the store mode on a depleted pack rather then starting with a full pack. Also be sure you cycle the packs at least once every 30 days while in storage.

What do you recommend storing lipo packs in? I have a lipo sack. What about a plastic (tupperware type) container.
