from doug @ Rc Scoring Pro

There is a lot of confusion about the new MyLaps decoder / transponders. The RC4 decoder box is the exact same as the RC3 decoder box with a firmware update. If you have the RC3 you can go to mylaps.com and register your decoder (go the the Knowledge Base link) and it will tell you if it is firmware upgradable to RC4, or if you have to trade it in ($330). The new RC4 (only) transponder works only with the RC4 decoder (or RC3 that was upgraded). The transponders we have been using since 2001 still will work with the new decoder, as will the smaller RC4 Hybrid transponder we have been using since 2006. MRT transponders will NOT work consistently, but can be traded in for $35.98+shipping. If you get a new RC4 decoder, you will probably need a new version of RC Scoring Pro. The lowest legal transponder number used to be 2097152 (2^21). With the new RC4, the lowest transponder # is now 1000000. You can also order CUSTOM transponder numbers on the MyLaps website.

Apparently some people are really into their transponder number:

The question still stands. Is the club going to do the upgrade? Is so, when?

From the best I can gather, after March 26th the new box should be in place...
