yearly marshalling thread
Just have to toss this out there again for everyones enjoyment.
Racing is great fun. The thrill of competition. Blazing speeds. Heart pounding action. It is only half the story when racing. The other half is marshalling. When you sign up to race you commit yourself to being a good sport on the track. The other half is being a good marshall. It is every bit as important as when you have your controller in your hand. First, when your race is done get your stuff back to the pits and return immediately to the track to marshall. Save the repairs, story telling and eating for when you get back in ten minutes. Drivers are practicing and need your help during warm up. Know the area of the track that you are responsible for. Discuss it with your fellow marshalls where and who covers what. Keep your focus on YOUR area of the track. We all enjoy a great race but you must keep your mind on your job...marshalling. Texting, talking to a friend, and general daydreaming should not be happening. Your quality of marshalling can help make or break a drivers night of enjoyment. It is one thing to crash...everyone does... but not getting help makes things worse. Be safe out there. We are known for blinding fast speed and high flying action at MARCCA. Always be sure that you keep yourself alert and protected at all times. Make sure you put cars down where they won't be immediately hit. Marshall cars in the order that they crashed. Put them back on track where they belong and pointed in the right direction. Marshalling is like being a good driver. It is a learned skill. It is something all of us can work on to be better. |
Amen ! Along this line, Racers that have moved up a class, ie sportsman to open or open to super should to be aware that as you progress up in classes there is a level of on track etiquette that goes along with it. You are expected to make clean passes, not run other trucks over from behind, move over for a faster racer, if you accidently spin someone out, wait till they are marshalled before resuming your race. Granted the occasional driver error happens even to the best of us, but clean racing makes us all faster and the hobby more enjoyable. As an added bonus, if you race clean, you gain the respect of your fellow racers.

Great thoughts and observations Craig.
We are all part of the big, happy, slightly disfunctional family of MARCCA. Not everyone will see eye to eye on everything but we all must make a concious effort to respect eachother and get along. We all need to take a step back once in a while and see what is truely important. We race toy cars for fun. Let's keep it that way....fun. Merry Christmas to all my fellow racers and friends. See you Saturday. |
One other thing popped into my head on racer ettiquette. When we start the mains at the end of the night everyone should play follow the leader for the first few turns at least. This lets everyone get up to speed and everyone settled in.
A good clean start gives everyone a chance for a good result. You can never win a race in the first corner, you can only lose it. Spike can and will call off starts that are not done properly or fairly. |
Bump!
Sorry for the mistake while marshalling, I saw 3 cars wreck, but missed the fourth that crashed as I was getting the first ones. Three marshalls would've been better on the right side of the track, it was busy for 2 people. |
it all good
