Dont worry too much about not starting right with that engine. They take a good amount of abuse. Just make sure that you have the right kind of petrol to oil mixture.

I personally use AMSOIL Saber Professional 100:1 2-stroke oil. As per what the label says, the mixture can be as lean as 100:1 but I do a 64:1 ratio which is 2 fl oz per gallon of 94 octane Sunoco Gasoline which is the highest octane rating you can get from a pump around my area. You can use a higher octane rating gas if you wish but it is not necessary.

You can also use lower octane rating gas and even Camping Fuel (Coleman or Ozark) but you might have idle issues if your engine is too tight. Very rarely though on pump gas. More evident when you are using Camping Fuel for new engines.

Initial Carburetor settings should be 1 1/2 open for L-needle and 1 1/4 open for H-needle.

Once you get the the engine to start, adjust your idle through the idle set screw and not by adjusting the H or L needles.

Unlike the nitro engines, these engines go faster when there is more fuel fed to the carb. The richness or leanness of the mixture is based on the fuel to oil mixture. I would suggest that you open up the H needle by 1/16 of a turn at a time and when you get to a point when your engine starts to bog down then close it by 1/4 of a turn and that should be your correct settings.

Try to keep your L needle at 1 1/2 open as opening it up more will foul your plug easily.

No need to rebuild engine as often as nitro. If you have a good filtering system for the air intake, you should have an engine that will run for years.

Best plug would be the original plug that the manufacturer of the engine recommends. If you will be racing, try to get the iridium equivalent of that plug. Make sure that you get a resistor plug, otherwise, it will cause radio interference and away goes all of your investment.
