I prefer the 23-turn because in my opinion the 27-turn is a glorified silver can Johnson or Mabuchi motor

anyway. nitro for me! 27turn should be the stock class simply because no matter how you tweak it for racing performance and speed gains is neglible on the other hand a 23t can really show serious speed. so.. how can this set an even playing field for a stock class? how about the low budget racers that cant afford to shell out money to tune motors and to buy the necessary things to keep the motor in top condition? |

Allow me to differentiate the Tamiya Stock Touring Class with an EP Open Stock Class and it might clear things up. The Tamiya Stock Touring class uses a 27turn mabuchi/johnson stock silver can and it comes with the kit, FREE. The chassis of choice is only the TT-01 chassis. in my opinion as an rc instructor, beginners should start with this class, where everything is cheap. This is the true low-budget/beginner class where racers are even restricted to beginners only. On the other hand, the EP Open Stock Class is never truly a beginner class, where the kits being used are 415's, Cyclone S's, Yokomo's, Corally's and the all other high-end chassis with equally high-end ESCs, batteries, and other equipment. Nothing is "stock" in this class except the motors, not even the drivers are stock as expert drivers can also race in this class. and with the redefinition of stock motors as "having a non-adjustable end bell with brass bushings instead of bearings" and not as the motor that came free with the box, nothing is low-budget in this class. Having said all that, having an expensive 27turn motor on EP Open Stock Class, racing with beginners and expert alike, where costs and conditions are not controlled, doesnt serve its purpose of level playing field (but of course its gonna be fun :) The point here is making racing cheap and standard. If you want 27turn, race in a class where the 27turn motor comes free with the kit. and for the EP Open Stock racing, go for the motor which is cheaper, faster, and lasts longer. 23turns |
