Default MNC 5 - MALAYSIAN NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP EP CATEGORY

Lets discuss and plan to have MNC finals Round 5. Forget about the recent hardaches and tribulation, lets regroup for the betterment of RC, electrics in particular.

We have put aside the MNC to cater for the BIG events. Now it is over lets hear opinions, comments and contributions towards a running of a successful finale. We have learnt how to run a good race and how not to be a bad organizer.

So lets everyone put their 2 cents here and be heard.

One need to learn what "NOT TO DO" first before moving forward. Perhaps a classical example would be the boo boo of the organiser of the latest FEMCA race in Klang. I was laughing to bits when Mr Organiser pointing out to Hara the rules in the IFMAR rule book. Teaching a World Class Driver, in fact a World Champion how to suck eggs. No wonder he was disgusted.

One more boo boo was, please paste more notices, race schedulesto keep everyone updated. How much could printing/photostating cost ? I know organising a race, usually the organiser would loose money and he'll be lucky to breakeven but want to organise, do it properly and don't cut corners. At least the basic requirements must be provided. So far, every organisers are doing ok. Syabas!! BUT not to the "license" holder of FEMCA/IFMAR. You screw up BIG TIME buddy. first time organise race, PLEASE request for help from those with experience. Don't be so arrogant Arron.

Default MNC Malaysian Championship

Important thing to be aware is the need for Proper Planning and a back-up plan. Understand the possible problem that is particular to a particular track or date.

1. Power Source.
I remembered our last MNC in TTwangsa, there were no proper power supply. The only power source was about 50 meters away, thus prepare power cables to pull the power to the pit area. Request everyone with generators to bring along their power source and pay for their fuel. At the end it did not present a problem to anyone.

2. Weather - Rain.
It will be good to have an event during the dry season. But when does Malaysia has a dry season. 80% of the year is a wet day. So other than checking the weather forecast it is good also to PRAY for a rainless day.
Do not ask me how to do it but you have to try.

3. Timing of Event.
If a race is for e.g done the Southern States can you guess how many will
travel down in the Mid month. Budget racers definitely not. So maybe timing
should be the last week or the first week of the month after payday.

4. Help/Assistance
For sure you cannot do all the things all the time, you need help to run things. You need knowledgeable people around you. Assign or delegate. At the end of the day you will have happy racers and you not dead beat.

5. The most important thing is "NAWAITU" or Reason for doing a Race.
Are you doing it for the well being of RC or making money out of it. If it is
the second point definitely you will try to be a cheapskate - cheap trophies, simple refreshments or high entrance fee e.t.c

All important if you eat at a restaurant, you remember the quality of the food served. If it is good you will want somemore. So potential MNC Organizers please look into these comments. I have done it twice and felt new people should try it, but please PLAN it well.

My 2 cents.

An Organizer need to be appointed first before we can set on a track. Currently the MARCC Comm. is considering all potential offers.

More info will be firm later once everyone has cool down and able to think straight after the recent experience.

Cool

hi...i am considered very new in this, but i would like to give my 2 cents if i may.I think the organisers should seek help from event management ppl.Leave those hassle to them.Find sponsors, more publicity. Then we get better food and RC will be hot news again. If popularity is gained, the next few events will have more sponsors flowing in.Imagine sponsors from McDs or KFC for food,Coke for drinks.Media coverage, real spectators and promotion booths.Sure happening.(Maybe get pit girls also....hehehe).

Just my 2cents,no offence.

Red face

Besides preparing for MNC Round 5, I think it's time the commitee members of all the clubs and associations to sit down and discuss about improving the stagnant/declining popularity of EP Racing.

What ezziydizzy quoted could work, provided RC could generate income for the sponsors or return on the investments made by the sponsor(s). But looking at past races as a reference, it's would be very hard for a sponsor to see any potential in generating any forms of returns to entice them to sponsor current or even continue sponsoring future events. I have taken note that whenever a race is held not much publicity is created for the awareness of the public. How are we to improve on this?

No Public = No Crowd = No Point Advertising/Sponsoring.
Note = We need to create Public awareness whenever there is a race.

We in Ipoh are basically the worst of the lot, We don't even have a proper track to use. The number of active RC players are miniscule in comparison to other sporting activities. Possibly our own labeling of RC as a hobby is the crippling factor here. Most of the players I have encountered these few years say they considered RC a hobby nothing more. Play-play only. What do you think would happen to football if all the top players took their sport as a hobby? They could all be still kicking coconuts in their backyard.

There needs to be a competitive spirit within the individual to become better in whatever he/she does. In the past few races which I have participated, I have noticed that many come to races totally unprepared. As a hobby, I don't see many spending much effort on it. Wikipedia Definition of Hobby - # A hobby is a spare-time recreational pursuit. No doubt, we have to accept their participation because there are many others who don't take RC EP racing seriously to even enter races.

These people need some kind of motivation to be competitive, to improve and to participate. We need to address this. Do we need to define a Novice, Intermediate and Pro category? If so, how? Could we learn from the Tamiya class race regulations and modifiy it to suit a wider crowd.

I know I have pose more Q's than A's here. Those who know me personally, know I am improving with every race. I know it's an expensive hobby with no returns but tell me, which hobby will not be expensive to pursue eventually. It all boils down to the individual and how commited he/she is.

Default MNC - Organizing/Sponsor/Publicity

Yes it is a pity isn't it. The public look at RC as a hobby, whilst RC racers slog hard with time, high monetary outlay to be competitive with better equipments, pay high premium to be shoulder with shoulder with world class players but still it is termed as a hobby. When we are on a brink of being remembered as the 2005 organizer for something all went down the drain. Even our local press would shy away from this not to mention the electronic media.

During the NOREX Race our sponsor was enterprizing enough to invite a public figure to launch the event. With him comes the media - indirect publicity. Article came out in at least 2 newsprint.

MNC4 - we were lucky than when one of the racer was related to a VVIP thus coverage on TV1 Info Sukan.

MNC1 - Radio Perak FM

MNC2 - Radio ERA

Sponsors will come in and be proud to be identified with a public event. Hopefully LHS big or small will cooporate by being associated with this next MNC. They should not be frightened of by cost. Approach the Org. Comm. - MARCC, why not, you can even pay a small premium just to hang your banners or better still sponsor lucky draws or prizes and get better advertising space or the MNC be name as XXX MNC5.

LHS will gain directly from these simple opportunities on offer. It is a chicken and egg co-existance.
1. Organizer need drivers/participants
2. Drivers/particpants need supplies from LHS
3. LHS need races to be organized.

So Malaysian EP specialist LHS lets help the potential organizers to provide an avenue for drivers to compete - need parts for racing - business for LHS.

Definitely the organizer will allow LHS to open up stalls for RC stuff ex-site. It will create interest for newbies and supply line for the oldies and an eye opener for the public at large.

My other 2 cents.

Need4speed,

Very well said. Thats where Tamiya will come in next year to give the RC market the much needed boost, provided the enthusiasts supports. Our plans are very much focused on awareness.
I have been in RC since I was a kid. Have seen many come and go in this hobby. Being a RC die-hard and now fully into the RC business where my rice bowl depends on. Together with my partners n a few good friends, we have tabled down a list of activities for all RC enthusiasts. Come March next year, we will give all RC enthusiast a world class event in a world class atmosphere. The group of us has tonnes of RC experience both locally n internationally. I hope all you guys will extend your support to us to make RC bigger than ever. I shall say no more as action speaks louder.

"To a better future for RC!"

Thanks Chee Yong. I'm really looking forward to your races and will participate if my work schedule permits. Pretty excited too. Will you be organising EP buggy races too ? Learned that it will be a controlled race. Gonna be fun, just like old time buddy.

Default MNC5 - Parking Lot Dewan Indra Mulia, Ipoh.

Would like to invite all EP drivers to join us in this Finale for the MNC 05/06 series in Ipoh where it all started.

We have learnt what needs to be done to improve from what happened last time we raced here. Last time it was sandy track, power down/trips and hot humid day.

On the sand, I assure you that is our priority (during NOREX we spent half a day sweeping and vacumming the track). On constant power trips we will ensure that we get constant power but we also request everyone to check your equipment about faulty wiring. On the weather we can either have wet or hot day.

This race will determine or should I say confirm the MALAYSIAN EP CHAMPION for the 05/06 seasons.

We have gone thru a lot of ups and down in EP throughout the year and this race is to close the current chapter.

Lets us group together to show that we are RC enthusiast in this hobby for fun and the thrill for competition. We are also proud people.
