even with tamiya ori parts. i do observe the new parts has a slightly darker blue. however the ori finishing are very good. if u compare options from 3racing. the painting sucks so do the cutting. you notice uneven straights and uneven colors.
for budget racers they can get the 2nd hand ori for good price. usually they won't want to buy the clones. they want the best value for money for sure.
since tamiya keep on producing new models like from 416, 416WE, 416X... maybe later 416Y, 416YE who knows .

Wait a minute.... Since the upgrade cost does not justify, and buying an original 416X makes more $$$ sence, you don't have to fork out anymore $$ to buy the clone kit anyway. That savings already!!!
To top that off, you get the latest from Tamiya.....a Original Tamiya TRF416X!!!!
For the benefit of others the 416 series were released by Tamiya in the order of - TRF416 then TRF416WE and current model in TRF416X.
To sum it up, if you want a kit that you only want to bash around without very little concern of performance, reliability and no intention to upgrade, then the clone kit will do. Of course you have to be very discipline to resist the temptation.
But if you have intention to one day make it an original 416WE, might as well save the money and hassle and just buy a original 416X. I stress its a originalTRF 416X and the latest model from Tamiya currently.
Regardless if it is a clone or original the, 416WE is already 1 model behind. Do you want a older model when you can potentially have the latest?

old-man, you have your point on this.
however there are people i came across on track say different. if i were to save rm1800 for a new ori kit. this will take me months. why not i get a clone for much lesser price. at least i m happy to bash around for long time. when i break something i just substitute with ori tamiya parts. bottomline is boleh main than never main. that is why the clones are avail in m'sia.
bottomline is supply & demand....if no one wants, they cease to exist.

Hi!

I'm not sure if Tamiya will be able to sue over similar design being cloned from their 416x. It takes lots of testing and racing to put together this car. IMO it will only take a year or two before the clones will be able to duplicate the PLASTIC parts exactly down to the correct flex and tolerance. Right now the Japanese and Americans have the best plastics. Cut off the spare parts tree and you can see how the plastic is moulded without any any air pockets and theres very little flexibility for the carbon parts. Compare the plastic parts from the clone kits and you can see the tolerance and flexibility of the plastic is just lower quality.
If you ever been to a machine shop in china and Taiwan, they can measure most metal parts and clone it in a cheaper alloy of aluminium, only the anodizing sets them apart because it is more expensive to anodize the alum parts to get the deep 'rich' TRF Tamiya blue. While they are able to duplicate carbon graphite and alloys as an exact copy, selling cheap coz they dont have to spend on researching the dimensions of these parts... I wont be suprised if next year, there'll be another clone of the branded cars
