MO3-M Gear Ratio

Hello to all my friends,

Anyone can guide me how to calculate the gear ratio for Tamiya MO3-M model. To my understanding, to calculate the gear ratio, we need to know what is the internal gear ratio, pinion and spur size. I dont face the problem for my TT01..but this MO3 model is slightly confusing me..

Ok, for example, the TT01 :
Internal gear ratio = 2.6
Spur size = 58
Pinion Size = 24

So the final ratio is (58/24)x2.6 = 6.28,

But, how to calculate the ratio for MO3-M model?
The internal gear ratio = 3.134,
Pinion let us say using = 20
How about the spur size? because inside there we can se many part of gear..
which one gear to take..

Help guide me, and correct me if im wrong..:lol:

Hi,

Internal Gear Ratio : 3.134

Gear Ratio using 20T : 1.8500 (37/20)
Gear Ratio using 19T : 1.9473 (37/19)
Gear Ratio using 18T : 2.0555 (37/18)
and so on.....

Final drive ratio using 20T = 3.134 X 1.8500 = 5.7979 (Rounding figure 5.80)
Final drive ratio using 19T = 3.134 X 1.9473 = 6.1028 (Rounding figure 6.10)
Final drive ratio using 18T = 3.134 X 2.0555 = 6.4419 (Rounding figure 6.44)
and so on.....

Hope it will help. Enjoy!

Yes..correct bro Sukun..the one I mean is MO5 fast gear set..tak berani nak beli..takut tak bleh ngam..

edwintklee 10-14-2009 09:29 PM

m03 and m05 same gear type, to the gear should fit mo3 too...

MTX3-B 10-14-2009 10:57 PM

Yes, it is a direct fit to M03 & M05. But gearing wise it will be entirely different. With the new speed gear for M05 from 3-Racing, FDR would be something like this, with the accompanying pinion choice:-

33T:-
20T pinion => FDR 5.17
18T pinion => FDR 5.75
16T pinion => FDR 6.46

35T:-
20T pinion => FDR 5.48
18T pinion => FDR 6.09
16T pinion => FDR 6.86

Hence, it wouldnt be a surprise for someone with a fast gear set fitted into M05 with a max pinion size of 20T could actually overtake you flat on the straight...hehehe....and that someone when approached categorically denied that he was using any "special" hop-ups, all other things ceteris paribus...huh! :sneaky:

when i see a spade i call it a spade, nothing more nothing less.

MTX3-B,

When you use the 3Racing speed gear set, you have to use other pinions to get the mesh, otherwise it doesn't work. Pinion size for 33T spur is 20, 22 or 24 and for 35T spur is 18, 20 or 22. These pinions are fitted in place as per the existing 16, 18, 20 T holes. You need to ensure they are Tamiya av pitch. The instructions tell you which to fit at the bottom of the page. You do not need to use the secondary gear, just change the spur, if you want to experiment.

This will alter the FDR to as low as 4.24 or there abouts, when using the 33/24 combination. You can get a similar result by using the Tobee craft speed gears.

You will know if someone has this gear set fitted, they will be way faster than you.

Apologies for bursting your bubble and your XL sheet data, but nice work anyway.

Regards,

Calvin.
