Default Hissing sound when charging battery

hi guys,

i am using EP4200 and GP3800 and when i was charging them last night, I heard hissing sound. Is this normal? Is this what the called venting?

The hissing sound is more pronounce and longer in the EP vs GP. It started to 'hiss' before it peaks and after i removed the batts from the charger, it continued to on and off a few times.

pls advise EP gurus.... i do not want to blow up my room...

Default batt "bad" experience

hi bro

Im not a guru but my brother had an experience once and he heard the same hissing sound while charging. He notice that the temp of the batt is not warm but high and quickly discontinue the charging and leave the batt to cool down. The hissing sound still there, on and off. A few minutes later, much to the horror, the cell blew up. and I mean totally blew up..with shrapnels flying off and everything. Luckily theres a white board blocking between the batt and a few guys (my bro included), otherwise...who knows. Until now were not sure the r/cause of it.

jeez!!

my batts now having black deposits on the '+' end... wonder if this was caused by the hissing.

i also read that venting is normal but if excessively it could lead to blow up etc...

anyone else to comment???

This is not RC related, last time when I was drilling something using cordless drill, suddenly the battery pack exploded.. BOOOMMM.. so damn loud, luckily the shrapnel didn't penetrate my skin.

All this is because over charging!we must discharge every cells,i mean single cell,so that all cell are equal discharge, this way the cell will full charge equally.the problem you faced is one or fews cell is over charging cause it to vent.
I had used my battery for more then 1 1/2 years,it still good for racing.
Remenber this,discharge before charging.

u discharge till 5.4v or at 5.4v rate?
as far as i know la kan
NiMh for safe keeping...u can't fully discharge the battery kan?
i think u discharge it till around 0.9v ( discharger or cell conditionner
can serve u well )
NiCad u must discharge it till 0v
kalau i salah jangan ikut..

That is for safe keeping,

Here is my way of battery care;
1,Always discharge to 0v before charge
2,if not use for more than 2 days, discharge till 0.9v,then charge 300 sec
3,if plan not to use for more than a week, charge full, then store.

I'm using this guideline for more than a year, never had a problem with my battery.this guideline is given by my friend from Japan(Friend to Masami at Nagoya)
