Lrp Sphere Competition + 4 star

anybody can share experience ... i just wonder to get one ... what i have ready read .. looking like everybody discuss GTb 4.5 ..

Hi,

I race over here in Singapore and the Sphere Competition has worked flawlessly for me and my trusted Losi JRXS. The ESC does get hot so airflow over it is important. Oh yeah, the heatsink is a must. On the 4Star, I have 2 fans blowing over it. The track i race on is comparable to the subang jaya one and geared at 9.6 final drive.

Wait for the X11 brushless motors though, they come out in a few weeks time from LRP. Sintered magnets.

Hope this helps

Regards

thanks you ... is it 4 star can beat 4.5r ... ? or same torque & top speed?
what i read .. Lrp sphere competition ESC is better than GTB .. i dont now why ..

Speed is about the same to the 4.5R Novak. I've had it for about 4 months now and it hasn't given me any problems. I hope to bring it up to Taman Titiwangsa to give it a go. Love that track with it's undulating terrain and camber changes. For that track, I'd gear for around 7.5 final drive on a evening run. Now that would give the Sphere Competition a good test.

Take your time in buying a system. Brushless is here to stay.

thanks for the photo ... very nice ..

why u only put 2 fan on the motor but no fan on ESC only use original lrp heatsink ... is this enough to defence from overheating..

elijahbaley 09-24-2006 08:21 PM

The main thing is air flow over the ESC unit. Heatsink is enough for me at this point in time. The stronger the drag brake, the hotter it'll get, just to let you know.

smilekt 09-26-2006 08:52 PM

what profile u use for Touring ?.. what i know sphere comp have 6 profile .. & 6 is very powerfull acceleration but ... u can get hotter on esc ..

elijahbaley 09-26-2006 08:59 PM

Profile 4, I don't like it too punchy on a hot day. Drag brakes i've gone all the way to 5. Depends on how my Sorex 40s are gripping that day.

smilekt 09-26-2006 09:07 PM

yap i aggree .. more puch more hotter ..

azmio 09-27-2006 03:35 AM

I like the Sphere competition drive profiles. The drivability at low speed is far better than GTB ESC. I never had any thermal shutdown with my Sphere competition but it's normal to have it with GTB.

However, the drag brake for Sphere competition is too little for 1/10 pan car. GTB shines when it comes to drag brake. It may be ok for TC and off road application, but definitely too little for wide pan car with powerful brushless motor.

Azmio thanks you .. good info .. i'm always reading your articel about brushless ... i know you are very experiance with brushless ...

is it sphere competition can use 3.5r motor from novak ..
& i read some articel .. lrp have new brushless motor 4.5T .. is it better then Reedy neo one motor ?

azmio 09-27-2006 09:09 PM

i know for sure that Sphere Comp wont have problem with Novak 4.5 BL. However, with 3.5 it's a risk to run one. You need to contact Reto at LRP to ask him about this. I'm a bit concern on whether damage caused by 3.5 will be covered under the warranty.

However, without considering things like warranty, it may be possible to run 3.5 provided that you gear it conservatively and there is a fan on top of the heat sink.

One general rule of thumb is that gearing must be conservative. I ran out of pinion and spur for my pan car. At one point the 124 spur was worn out by the asphalt because my foam got so thin. See, I would like to run the 3.5 but my pan car wont allow anything higher than 6.8:1 ratio. 124 spur and 18 pinion is the most that I can have.

Anyhow, BL tech and ESC always amaze me, it's interesting to see how LRP and Novak improved their products from the early release compared to few months after that. The system just got better and better in term of reliability.

I havent tried the X-11 sintered motor. However, the 4 or 5 star Neo or vector will definitely much faster than 1 star motor. I use the 1 star motor only for subang track or for off road at glenmarie. At glenmarie on road, i either use 4.5 or 5.5 BL motor.

May i know ..

Sphere competition combine with novak 4.5r motor is better than 4 star motor?

coz Novak 4.5r is 415watt .. but 4 star is only 290watt .. more higher watt is more torque is it true?

azmio 10-14-2006 12:49 PM

yup, you got it right. 4.5 is definitely faster than 4 star. However, LRP motor is much more durable than novak's motor. My 4.5 motor simply seized right after the long straight line at Glenmarie. My 6.5 on the other hand vibrates when i apply throttle. lucky that both of them are still within Novak 120 day warranty.

My LRP 1 star and 2 star are still working. They are much more durable than any Novak BL motor.

thanks Azmio ...

what the best gearing for pro 4 with sphere com + 4 star?
