If Letko was a big OVAL

A few months ago I made the mistake of thinking the Tri-oval would be neat to race on, me and a few others agreed, but it was slow to launch.

If Letko, soon to be Shawnee Raceway, were to have a large oval, bigger than the old Santa Fe Oval, and I mean oval, symmetrical turns. Do you guys think it would grow? The current plan has 106 4-foot wide pits and a, well let's say big track.

The agreement is not in stone yet, but should be in the next 48-72 hours, may not happen, or if it does it may be off-road only, but oval is good racing too and the infield would be big enough to do the two track system, at least for some of the year.

Just curious of opinions.

I think if you do it you should have like one big oval event a month, or every 2 months. Really just too much oval going on, MDRA, Skips, Checkered Flag. Plan the oval event between track rebuilds. Mixing the two is just too much work and compromises the offroad track layout.

I agree with rc mayor, as long as the offroad track isn't compromised. I would be willing to try oval, but I really enjoy offroad.

I think you could do both right. just race one or the other when there is demand. I like both off road and oval and there is a good crowd for both.

I am ready to bring back the oval still have the latemodel slash ready to rock .I think with the new crop of racer's you have might enjoy oval more than off-road or the other way around but it give's them a chance to try it in a beginner friendly track and makes a all around better racer when you have raced both oval and off-road .

I wouldn't close the offroad track to run oval. You have a good customer base now with offroad and I'd hate to see all that hard work evaporate trying to push an oval track. If they can be set up at the same time that could be good, but closing down the offroad track to run oval you might hurt the newb turnouts at the expence of a few oval guys. Like I said before I'm willing to try it, but driving in circles doesn't seem nearly as exciting as offroad racing.

I think a friday night oval would be fun and wouldnt mess with the off-road

nathonnice 01-31-2013 05:09 AM

oval

i will be out to letko soon, do not go oval, unless its between track builds like previous poster suggested. there is way too many oval tracks in kc, not enough technical off road in my opinion. i am currently building another b4 purpose built to come out on tues nights....

Just my 2 cents

Do one thing and do it well. If you have room for two tracks independently of each other then fine. The point was brought up that threre are multiple very good oval tracks in the area. Don't know if the metro area needs another.

Again, just my 2 cents.

I am w erock on this one

V10Mercury 01-31-2013 09:17 PM

I too agree with Erock.
If you can do both (well) then that would be great. Personally I vote for off road if it has to be one or the other.
Its obvious that you are very passionate about what you are doing and that you truly care about your racers/customers. Everyone has been very good about making any new comers &/or beginners feel welcome and even offering them some help & advise. IMO As long as you continue in the direction that you are currently going I am pretty confident that you will be successful either way you go.
I have very fond memories of racing on your oval track & off road track back in the day, on Shawnee drive, as a very young teenager. Looking back on that, I am shocked that you put up with us!
