Good overall turn-out tonight.
- 1/18 scale trucks saw Andre with the car to beat in the main.
- VTA B Main saw Houston Thomas earn the win to overcome some qualifying problems.
- VTA A Main saw Houston Thomas work his way through traffic for the win
- Mini Cooper main was back and forth between Bob Cordell and Houston Thomas. Late in the race Houston's Mini suffered a problem allowing Bob Cordell to charge to the win.

Some notes from VTA tonight: Although a few of our normal VTA racers were unable to make it, Mark Borem and Chris Clayton made it up with borrowed rides. Chris TQ'ed his Cordell setup machine, and managed a 3rd place finish. Mark Borem took a Smith setup car and just needed another qualifier and would have been in the A-main. Instead Mark put in a strong showing but just didn't have enough to overcome Houston. Time to fire Borem's crew chief. Another strong showing for Cody in the main saw him take 2nd. Brian Shaw had his best qualifying in VTA sitting 2nd in the A-main, but had a bit of trouble in the main and lost a few laps needing to be marshalled. As promised I "teched" all VTA cars and all were running a legal FDR. All cars were well over 1450 grams in the A-Main

I'm sure I've said this before but maybe not on this thread. Pretty much any "modern" 4wd touring car can be competitive in VTA especially at Slots. We have seen HPI Pro 2/HPI Pro 3 in the A-main, TC3/TC4, XXX-S, and TT-01. I won the A-main last week running 4-cell stock with a HPI Pro 3 and this Friday I was 4th. I've won a few A-mains with a TC3 as well.

Basically if you have a 4wd TC, best to spend the money on tires and your favorite muscle body for the class. Many racers are using lipo/Novak 21.5 motors for less maintenance but if you have 4-cell NIMH and stock motor/speed control then use that.

If you do have a TC, but don't have the body or tires let the racers at slots know. Between all of us we could help someone get setup for the night to give the class a try.

Qualifying for VTA was very close tonight. 8 drivers had 30 laps or better in qualifying. The VTA "B" main saw some close racing with multiple lead changes. Tom Johnson managed to secure 1st with less than 10 seconds to go to earn the bump up to the "A" main.

For the VTA "A", Brian Smith was sitting on the pole running 4-cell 17.5. "Team Cordell" (Bob & Chris) were sitting 2 & 3. Brian Smith had a bad 1st turn allowing the entire field to pass him. Chris got out to an early lead and never looked back. Smith was able to run a better second half of the race and managed to secure a solid 2nd place. Cordell was fighting a loose car in the main, but held on for 3rd.

Overall the layout tonight allowed for some quick laps. I'd say we should save the photo or take notes.

I was very impressed with Rocky's performance last night. I was even more impressed that he bought that Tamiya Mini Cooper XB at 6:30p, charged a battery, and raced at 7:30p the same night. And in his first night ever racing Mini-Coopers he qualified 5th! That kid might be one to watch in the coming years.

For 1/18 scale trucks ,you can use foam or rubber tires. However, the rubber tires need to be "street" tires and not knobby offroad tires. I don't run that class, so someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as practice, you can pretty much practice any day of the week. The best days to practice on-road would be Wed - Sat.

- Wednesday 1/12 on-road races around 7 and typically they have a tight course setup. The track should be open at 5pm
- Thursday is open practice and usually some of the 1/10 scale racers setup an easier track to run
- Friday on-road racing starts around 7pm, but the track is open for practice at 5pm.
- Saturday is 1/18 trucks with jumps in the evening. The layout is usually up from Friday, and the track is open during the day.

The number to the track is (317) 787-7568 if you want to call about hours or parts availability at the on-site hobby shop.

So who is Railroader? Would that be the one and only David Lee?

Just curious. I need to get over there soon and run some T/A with you guys. I run 1/12 too but two nights a week from here (Champaign, IL) is probably a little too much for the wife to approve.

Sorry Tom, no insult intended. David is always trying to get me to come over there and run with you guys. Just need to get a hall pass from the wife. Can't make tonight, tricky treats with the little one.
