You should be able to....but you need to drill the cross pin hole for the second pulley. The stuff is spring steel so it is going to be tough! Better to get the $90 shaft and use Tamiya 3 hole spurs!

exactly ! the new solid shaft will not accept the normal spur gears in Atlas / Kawada format.

I have the new shaft (silver in color) and it come with the T1R kit.
