Tell him to come on down I would love to see his car.
One of the goals of the GT class is = low $$$ racing. We do not want to get caught up in the cubic dollar type racing that 1/8 open and 1/10 touring have become. I know because I raced 1/8 open for over 20 years. We race cars that are stock with the following modifications allowed;
Brake upgrade
sway bars
Electronics
Rubber tires - any brand
and minor upgrades that don't improve performance
150cc fuel tank max
The hyper .21 engine is an 8 port high performance engine. We are running factory stock 3 port .28 engines. If he decides to participate in our series he will probably find himself in a GT OPEN class which at this point has no rules. Until this class grows to be big enough to race as a heat (minimum of 3 cars) he will be on the track with the GT STOCk class cars but his points may scored separately.
I have not seen a DM1 run so I do not know if there is a significant difference in performance. It could be that a high performance .21 with a 125cc tank and a .28 stock engine with a 150cc tank may be able to run in the same class. Until we have other types of GT cars show up we can't determine how they will be classified.

Ant and interested others,
I figured that Lee or sombody would have posted this by now.
We mainly run the ROAR rules and classes. The 1/8 GT is a seperate Kyosho class. We also somtimes run the mini coopers from the Tamiya TCS rules. There are also the F1s, but I don't know which rules. In nitro last year, we ran 1/8 GT, 1/8 open, 1/10 nitro TC(.12) on a regular basis. In electric, 1/10 TC(13.5/23), 1/10 TC(open mod), TCS mini, but the electric did not run every race weekend.
You can check out the ROAR rules at: http://www.roarracing.com/

Almost forgot one for electrics: USVTA.
They started it up last year at Primetime, but they never ran at the bowl.

Just to help clear things up. For 2009 the F1 tour again will have 2 classes for F1. Spec class will be all Tamiya F103's all versions and all of the F103 clones out there. Duratrax Indy, Cross new and old versions, MLP MP3/8 and others of this type. 6 cell or LiPo with 8 minute heats and 15 minute A-main.
F1 will be all chassis with 4 cells and 27T brushed or 17.5 brushless. All 4wd F1's (Tamiya F201, MLP Pro II) will use 4 cells and 19T or 13.5. No ruling yet on the new 4 cell LiPo. 5 minute heats and mains but mains may extend to 6-8 very soon.
Moto GP bikes may run on certain tracks such as Dalton, Sugarbowl and any track with wide enough lanes. Kyosho and Venom 1/8 bikes. Motor rule will be decided soon.
Stock touring w/rubber tires only as before.
WGT may be introduced if enough entry's as will VTA.
