Default What gearing on-road guys?

Guys,

What gearing options are you guys running at the local tracks? Nexus, PT, Coopers etc. I want to buy some pinions and or spurs. I see a lot of you guys with lots of gearing choices. Can you recommend a few options?

Thanks.

Im running an Mi2

Most of us run between 4.5 and 5.0 final drive ratio.

I run 4.9 most of the time.

no offense fury. that means nothing to me. Im an idoit with drive ratio etc. I have never had a TC car before. Can you elaborate? What size spur and pinion do you run. How do I calculate drive ratio? I gotta learn this somehow.

I don't know what spur ya got but I would pick up something in the 116 to 128 range and pinions from 25 to 35 ( 64 pitch). That should give you a good gear selection.

To figure out final drive....... spur/pinion then X internal gear ratio

125/25=5
5X2.0=10

Final drive= 10.0

No problem.

Final drive is calculated like so... Spur/pinion x car's transmission ratio.

I don't know the numbers for your car.

I run a 96 spur and 47 pinion.

The MI2 has two transmission ratios to choose from

1.8 with 20T layshaft pulleys(low)

2.1 with 17T layshaft pulleys(high)

Depending on which pulley you choose you will need different pinion and spur to achieve the same FDR. You might ask around in the Schumacher thread and see what people are running with the 13.5.

Chris Cooper (Budman)said he ran between a 4.8 and a 5.0. I have no idea what pullies he was using though.

With the 20T layshaft, you could get a 4.9 FDR with a 104T spur, and a 38T pinion. With the 17T layout, you could get a 4.9 FDR with a 102T spur and a 43T pinion.

Also, your rollout using the above mentioned gearing would be 40.1761 with the 20T layshaft and 39.7319 with the 17T layshaft.
