"2010 Super Cup Series"

I was wondering if it is standard procedure to call a race official after one round of qualifying instead of finishing the race on Sunday or on a later date. I want to be diplomatic in expressing my disappointment of how things went down at Coral Springs and try to understand why when everyone knew the threat of rain, we did not start the race as scheduled. We had great weather in the morning and early afternoon and enough time to run at least 2 rounds. I spent several hundred dollars on travel expenses, a hotel for 2 nights and entry fees, etc. only to feel like I should have stayed at my home track for a club race. I am not pointing any fingers or trying to be a jerk, ok? I have just never heard of that happening anywhere I have ever raced before. At any rate, I would like to attend the other rounds of this series, but I don't want to throw my money away. Thank you.

Weather update to the Super Cup Series: Super Cup racing will be held on Saturday. All efforts will always be made to run the event on that single day. If one complete round is completed it is an offical race and points will be tabulated based on position. If it is impossible to race on the scheduled Saturday, Sunday will be used as the make-up day. If a race is unsuccessful on Sunday than a make-up race will be run at a date to be determined. Drivers will have the option of a refund or to hold their entry for the make-up event.

I understand that and I too have been racing for quite awhile. I guess I am more interested in knowing why the race was scheduled to start IMMEDIATELY at 9:30 (as posted on RCSignup) but did not. What I'm saying is that it seems it would have made more sense, given the very late start and the obvious threat of rain, to have held the race on Sunday (beautiful weather) where we could have ran all qualifiers and mains, rather than try and rush through one round just to be able to call it an "official race".

I understand the 1 round rule it's been that way for years. My gripe is the way the race was run. Computer problems and late start aside. There was NO authority to moving the program along 6+minutes were wasted between every round. In the future a stronger race director is a must. 2 rounds or close to it could have been done if all the time burned between rounds was reduced to 1 lap and check in only.

I guess I should have made myself more clear. I understand the 1 round rule as well.....I just didn't see the reason for it to happen had the program been run more efficiently. with as many entries as there were, there should have been more combining of heats rather than running 5 or 6 cars (in the same class) in 3 or 4 seperate qualifiers.

Hello JW,
My name is Ariel & we have yet to meet. I wanted to introduce myself to yas but with the confusion of the cup & tuning in my truck & buggy I didnt get a chance to.
I totally agree with your opinon on the Supercup & I told my wife the next time I want to run the Supercup to remind me dont! This was my 2nd time tring to run this event. The 1st time was last year at Daytona, where I only ran the SC mod,3 hrs to complete a qualifier. They knew how long it took to do a qualifing round, for this wasnt their frist event. I should have known better when Cooper said they dont run at nite because they dont have lights & found out after I got there they had some noise rules for the track.
And why didnt we start at 930 like they said? We could have gotten in 1 qualifier & the race....then I wouldnt feel the way I do.
Im also agreeing with the money I spent, I could have bought that Tekin speedo with the programming card...lol Ok maybe not so funny, but you see my point. 40 for the entry,100 for hotel,100 for fuel & just to round it off..100 for eats,I was there friday & saturday.
For this event I MIGHT try 1 more time,& thats a VERY WEAK MIGHT to attend. Only when I know its at a track without such stiff rules & the sun is shinning for that day. I knew that the weather was iffy so it was my fault when I drove all the way down there. Im in Orlando & the crew I was hanging with was from Ocala & farther North.
Sure it was cool seeing some of the racers that I dont get a chance to race with. BUT to tell ya the truth, I have more fun running at club races then attending larger event. Its sopose to be about the fun right?
Then after the race, alot of us just went to Treasure Coast just to play with our cars & get our itch scratched. Just to see the J crew selling more tires & rims. For I dont hold that against them, thats their business. But they could of aleast have paid for our club race with all the cash they raked in for just 1 qualifier.
160 x 20.00=wow for just 3 hours of their time.
I was disappointed

Hello Racers,
We the officals from the Super Cup Series would like to apologize for last weekends series race hosted at Coral Springs. The transition of taking over the Super Cup Series and receiving 160 entries (60+ more than the average) caught us off guard and we were not properly prepared. There is a laundry list of excuses and not all in our control, but we will take full responsibility and make sure this doesn’t happen again.
We will have an official statement posted on the Super Cup site as well as here on rctech ASAP. Thank you to everyone showing their support and understanding.
Regards,
Paul Wynn

If I may start with a little math 19 Heats 6 minutes each plus and extra 3 minutes to buffer for check in, turn marshals in positions and the fact the race isnt going to end right at 6 minutes is 171 minutes which for easy math we will say 3 hours a round. Even if we had started at 9:30 and running a FLAWLESS program with no track maintence wouldve put the second round ending at 3:30 ..... the rain came exactly at 3:23. So even if we wouldve ran 1 qual and a main we wouldnt of made it either due to the fact that it wouldve taken atleast another 20 min to setup the mains.
For every person that wanted to stay and race sunday there was another person that wanted to just count one round and go home. For someone like myslef that travels with my wife and leaves the kids behind with sitters this couldve made it very hectic planning another full day of racing. There were a few guys from up north that were dealing with a 6 - 7 hour drive home.
Remember there were 160 entries and that means 160 diferent sceniaros. We live in FL its not like we can always plan on the weather.

I agree...there were probably 160 different opinions on what to do, and your opinion was different from mine or the next guys. I AM NOT pointing fingers or trying to upset anyone here. I am voicing MY opinion and disappointment based on MY plan that I brought my wife AND my kids and spent a heck of a lot of money to run 1 qualifier. You and I both know it is impossible to please everyone and there is no sense in trying to. Maybe we should have taken a vote on it, or just "done the math" and realized that there was no way to get a day of racing in and reschedule.

Josh, I think we both agree that a different out come wouldve been better. I will say this... the racers at these events really have to step up their game. I saw a ton of drivers not attend the drivers meeting. They had to reprint the heat sheets several times all because people didnt check the boards the first time. Another thing whats the deal with 3 hot laps then check in? Racers should know 1 hot lap then check in, for the few races I announced I noticed when trying to check racers in I would call their name they would check in then do a whole hot lap....
I think if not for the weather and some other minor details the race was fine. I know my wife and I had an excellent time and are looking fwd to RD 3 (if my schedule allows it).
Josh you seem like a level person and hopefully and we can do bench racing at the next race (my idea of bench racing is a couple beers friday before the race). You gotta admit this weather has been extremely off over the last couple months. I think the Super Cup crew will have it figured out at the next race.

160 drivers, thats "back in the day" numbers. Seems it is growing well & the program & the drivers will have to tighten up the times between heats like in the old days of the Florida State Off-Road Series & at Lake Park before the Winter Champs or you guys will be running in the dark at the next round of the Super Cup.

Bench racing sounds great man. I really am a level guy and I like to make new friends at the races. I have faith that the Super Cup crew will get it ironed out and the next round(s) will be sweet. I agree that the racers have a responsibility to step it up for these events and show some respect. Attending the driver's meeting, being out to turn marshall immediately after your race, and not wasting valuable time with unecessary hot laps, all contribute to a smooth running program. I have attended many large events in the midwest, before I moved here, where we could have 200+ entries. Also, I raced the Midwest Championship in Columbus, where we had 450 entries. These kind of things were not tolerated at events of this magnitude and you would be docked a lap or miss your run all together. The bottom line is that we are all out to have fun and be competitive, let us not forget that!

there were definitely some issues on saturday. i know how difficult it can be to get everybody organized and signed up on time. so just so nobody takes anything i say the wrong way, i completely appreciate the time and effort it takes to put on a race and totally empathize with what you went through...
yeah, they kept reminding us that's what they were doing...
that would have cut quite a bit of time. at least another 20 or 30 min...
pack the heats and we would have finished before that...
what place did you end up in...lol
sorry, i only looked at the 2 classes i was supposed to be in, not the other 4 they put me in...
i agree. i know how it is when you get surprised by extra entries but hopefully it will be better next time.
since i work sundays i wasn't able to make it to round one. and after this round of not having any practice and having a battery dump during the qualifier, i'm definitely not in the running for points in this series.
like i said, i understand there's bugs to be worked out with new people running the race. hopefully everything will be smoother for the fall session...
