Carpet Track in South Florida

Hello all my my name is Michael Moore and I am from the Suburbs of Detroit, Michigan.

Carpet racing was all the rage when I lived there and I miss it. I came to Florida and there arent any carpet tracks at all. Which surprises me b/c of the heat and weather of South Florida. How many times has a race been cancelled due to rain? Many. Indoor racing has none of this. You can enjoy it year round.

I have often thought of opening a track down here and I finally decided that I'd like to. But I need to know if there is any interest.. I posted a brief post in the Track Location thread and within two minutes i got a reply from the Mod. that there would be decent interest.

If you would be interested in racing indoor carpet, in the Eastern Broward County area, please let me know.

There's plans in work to have another carpet race at Minnreg after the Thanksgiving holidays. Probably the same format as before, oval on one day on road the other day. This would be your best bet to find the interest in carpet racing in general.

Michael Moore from Detriot?

I feel your pain. I came from the midwest as well, and we had indoor carpet and offroad in one facility. If there was an indoor track of any kind, I think it would do very well.

We would all love to have an indoor track in Southwest Florida but In reality
Think again and crunch the numbers..

Unless you have a million dollars to invest in store front property its going to
be very hard to make any money in a R/C track with store also competition from the internet.

There's good weather comming to Naples and where racing at East Naples Park.

Rcgen is right!

There is a track at Minnreg and is a very big race.
Alot of the top drivers from the snowbirds who live in Florida go
to this race.

Mike ALWAYS puts on a great race.

I HIGHLY recommend going ...

You would have no problem finding racers from the Tri-county area of Palm Bch, Broward, and Dade county. St. Lucie County too!!!

Build it and they will come...

I want to open a track in Southeast Florida, not Southwest.

I'll take care of the cost, my post is to find out if there is sufficient interest to make the investment.

As Barnacle posted before, several national caliber drivers from St.lucie, Palm Beach, Broward and Dade would surely make the trip.....

Just out of curiosity, where in the southeast?

I was thinking about Pompano Beach, Deerfield area. Central to the Tri-County area.

Mr. Moore,

The racers in Southeast Florida welcome the possibility of an Indoor facility. I would look at it from the ground up, and expect to build the business, and not depend on the current racers to keep you afloat. The last indoor facility while it had it's own issues took about 6 moths to build the clientele. The local racers will frequent the facility a BUNCH, but building your own crowd will be the key...

The Deerfield Area is very much central, and a good place for the location. If you would like to meet some of the racers that will Frequent your track/shop... Stop by the FSEARA state race this month, or come by one of the local tracks, Village RC Raceway, Oakland Park Speedway...etc

Thanks TimPotter,

I would like to visit a few tracks actually, Minnreg seems to come up alot, where is it, also the Jax carpet track.

Your state race series would find a happy stop on carpet i'm betting.

Looks like I have some visits to make and people meet.

I think the response is on par to what I had expected.

Tracks mostly fail due to bad managment, and owners who think tracks run themselves. I agree the racers out there now can give you a start but you need to find your own clientele, and new racers. Besides isnt that what its all about, getting more and more people interested in R/C.

Thanks for the input guys. And keep it coming.

Michael

I believe you are on the right track. As Mr. Potter has said check out the tracks, their race programs and meet the racers. Also, check out the monthly races at Strickland RC park and Superior Hobbies. Seems like the on road guys try to attend those.
