Kind of sounds like another "car of the month" type ploy that tamiya, xray, and losi are so good at. Now it will be, "4-cell upgrade chassis". In mod you will have to run a receiver pack if you want to have any steering power at all. Unless, that is, the ESC manufacturers step up to the plate and begin building buck/boost converters for the BEC's instead of simple linear converters. Battery prices should theoretically go down, but 4-cell 1/12th tells me other wise. To get 4 batteries of a certain level you should theoretically have to go through fewer cells to get them. If there is 1 out of 100 cells that is a certain performance, you should only have to match 400 to get 4 good ones instead of 600. It appears to me that the manufacturers stand to make a lot of $$ by this rule change.

I think its conspiracy between battery makers and car makers. By going 4 cells, consumers will pay less for 1 set of battery for first few month. As time goes by, the battery makers gradually and quitely increase the price of battery per cell. The extra margin will be share 50:50 by car makers and battery makers.

[QUOTE=Oscar Jansen]It changes nothing.... although?

1) we wil still dump (so batteries are as important, now you will need even more the voltage) [QUOTE]

Then gear down or drive smoother

[QUOTE=Oscar Jansen]
2) cars will be missiles (so the differences between the good and less good drivers will become even bigger) [QUOTE]

If you're taking 2.4 volts out of the equation, how will the cars be more missle-like than they are currently? When you slow cars down in any series, you reduce the gap between the "haves" and the "Have Nots"

[QUOTE=Oscar Jansen]
3) tyres will wear even faster than before [QUOTE]
If you're reducing corner speed and weight, don't you in turn reduce the stresses placed on the tires which should increase tire life?

[QUOTE=Oscar Jansen]
4) cars will be redesigned for optimising weight balance (which cost money... who pay: yes, you...) as well manufacturers need to make different cars for different regulations. [QUOTE]
Until this becomes a world-wide rule, I don't see that happening. Besides, with a 6-cell chassis you have the flexability to locate the battery where you wish to fine-tune the chassis

[QUOTE=Oscar Jansen]
5) batteries will NOT become cheaper I will quess, but stay same price (but you get only 4 iso 6) [QUOTE]
Why would that be the case? If the pricing would go up it would be due to supply and demand or the battery matchers raping the customers. If you're buying 33% less product, the pricing "should" be reflective appropriately

[QUOTE=Oscar Jansen]
6) You will NEED another or extra BEC system (as the voltage will drop too much while accelerating at the end of the race)
[QUOTE] Or a micro-receiver pack like most 1/12th mod guys use. So what?

Manfredo, stock will always be THE MOST EXPENSIVE FORM OF RACING anyone can be in. When you restrict the motors, you get guys who buy 4, 5, 6, 7 or more motors just for 1 race, and toss them afterwards. Plus, what about the guy who goes to a race with those motors and another motor is "The Motor" to run and the guy just guessed wrong before he came? Well, now he's going to buy 4, 5, 6, 7, or more of the "Better Motor" just to get 2-3 "Good Ones". I think the key with going with 4-cells is to replace 27 Turn "stock" or spec motors with 19T motors.

If you have already tried 12th scale TC. You already know it works great with 4 cells.
It is still a rocket, and is fun for all, stock is a bit slow though, but 19T and Mod it flies just fine...Now if manufactures spend alot of $$$ redisigning the 10th scale to really benifit the new rule than we shoudl see some nice new layouts.
Or you can look at this as a conspiricy that the Manufacturers don't have enough of our $$$...LOL
Maybe we can start a new class and see if everything follows...They are ready exsist and they can easily go back to make parts for these cars...

http://www.corallyusa.com/2005/MINI.htm and heck it is $224.00 striaght from Corally USA....>Nice...Now our wallets get get less raped.

"Brushless motors won't blow up"......thats the funnies thing I have ever heard......just ask Barry Baker about his brushless motors that never blow up......or better yet, ask Mike Blackstock about the brick he hit at 40 mph at the end of the straight....

Why not just make it 5 cells... We wouldn't need a RX pack, the car would balance without redesigning it, and it would be slightly cheaper. This would slow down stock to a level a novice can race, make 19t the new stock, and slow down mod so you don't loose the car when you blink.

Been racing for 15 years, 7.2v has been the std. You were super cool if you ran 8.4v.

Nothing will ever really change. Look how well the 1/12 scale touring car took off

let brush motor be history.
They wont have these problems of burning out - throwing winds etc
Brushless has to be the way to go just wish it would hurry up and take over!
Will happen soon....

They blew apart.....why, cause the designs can't take the stuff we subject them to........and IFMAR ( I don't blame ROAR for this) decided it was best to not allow any of the motors the top brushless companies were making in (hacker, etc) under the rules....

The Novak's don't blow up much, but they thermal.....the LRP/REEDY units.....they just explode......probably before they can thermal...

Are you talking about the motor or the speed control here? Just wondering what the problem is . Either way it's a design problem in the system.

As for going to four cells - It's the cheapest way to reduce power. You don't need to buy anything so long as you don't have expensive FET servos or a speed control that doesn't do 4 cells. Sure it's less efficient than a higher voltage setup for a given amp draw, but it doesn't really need much new gear. The weight balance problem will be there as long as cells keep getting bigger and heavier, even with out a cell count change.

Yes, but many of us do have expensive FET servos and will be sad to have to replace them.

this is the reason that i love plettenberg 4-pole motors. Kevlar wrapped arms that spin without any vibration at all.
