I asked and they confirmed. It's due to the outbreak of the plague, there is also rumor that yokomo is not going for the same reason.

I guess South Africa has a big issue with the Ebola virus...

There have only been two confirmed cases of Ebola in South Africa, both roughly 22 years ago. The Ebola excuse is bullshit.

EDIT: I think the plague excuse is bullshit too and can't help but think that people are just looking for convenient excuses to not attend.

I would venture to guess that the reason for not attending is the concerns of public safety that have been expressed since the announcement of the race being there

A scare of an evolved form of the Bubonic Plague was alerted around a year ago. IFMAR would have had plenty of time to change venues if they followed current events, or if they felt this was a health concern.

Even if one was given inoculations and quarantine, why would anyone want to spend a week at a potential health hazard, if they didn't have to?

Given that these are paid professionals driving for one of the largest current teams in the world, why do you say they don't have to attend?

Does seem strange, pre worlds seemed to go off without any issues. If Yokomo and Infinity do not go then it will be an easy win for Xray in both 12th and TC.

They dont have to go if the team decides not to send them. Idk if you have ever seen Infinity at a race but it's a huge group of support guys as well as the drivers.

Funny how a bit of research shows no current warnings in place for SA for Bubonic Plague (treatable with antibiotics btw) or Ebola... WHO | South Africa (click news and features)

Correct. There is scuttlebutt at play here by a few individuals.

The health issue is a non issue.

If anything, it is possibly a mask for the true concern some have - safety. Both Dallas (RIP) and Masami were victims of violent crime last time and they memory is still strong for some.

However - it’s not 2001 anymore and the event is also no where near the hotspots of joburg.

Its the equivalent of being afraid to San Francisco because of potential riots in south central LA.

I think you are missing my point. I am commenting on both the team and the drivers. The team shouldn't be giving them the out and the drivers should be telling the team they need to go. This is worlds. Unless they already think the car isn't good enough to contest for the win so they (meaning both the team and the drivers) are content to make excuses? lol.

I can understand that this is likely a more expensive worlds in terms of travel fees, but the conversation isn't about a reduced team being able to attend. The conversation is about Infinity straight up saying they aren't going and using bullshit reasons as their excuse. That bothers me when Antonio has worked his ass off to try and put on a good worlds, because now there will always be the asterisk that Infinity (including individuals like Marc, Naoto, etc.) didn't attend. Providing, of course, that they hold true to what they have been telling people thus far.

Not really sure if you know who the owner of Infinity is or not but I assure you money is not an issue for him. There has been a ton of chatter since day one of announcing the location of this event. Like it's been stated, the safety concerns is the base of why teams and drivers are going to choose to skip the event. It sucks because the promoter has definitely spent a lot of time and money to host the event. And the EP world and nitro sedan worlds aren't that far apart so a lot of Infintys focus is going to the nitro side.
