When you put the brushes in, it recognizes that you have done so. It then analyzes the composition of the brush and searches in its database (which can be upgraded via bluetooth link) what manufacturer it is and what brush. Then when you run, it analyzes the load, amperage and voltage to determine the level of wear of the brush during the run. If you skim the comm without changing brush, the LED will know it, also if you put cleaner on your brushes and take the lubricant away it will modify the lifetime in accordance. And best of all, once the brush has burnt or is as the end of its life, the LED will tell you with a super sexy voice to change your brushes when you take your car to the pits after your run and take the bodyshell away.

As Jr. noted, the Integy Atlas 19T and also the new Integy Stock 27T have a blue led light built into the endbell design.
