Anybody have any experiences to share with this kit? Like how it handles and what you have driven on it
|
I would love to hear some on this one too.

Handling wise it's alright. But it being a RWD it's prone to oversteer out of turns and can't carry that much speed in the turns. I eventually sold my k1 since I was the only one with the car and I can't deal with parts constantly breaking. Although I appreciate xpress in coming up with a pretty interesting design, it will always be a niche market and can't see it pick up any traction in the future. |
Thanks for that review. I was just about to order one!

Despite what seems like a difficult and tricky car as Ive heard, I’m going to give this car a shot on american black carpet racing for 2018. I’m mid way through the build and am fasinated by the design. Being RWD I’m gonna try to tune it with a mix of my experiences in FWD mini and F1 RWD
Prior to starting, I purchased the kit with all of the most common parts that Ive researched to commonly break https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...5d90b9f2c.jpeg I also made sure to buy some aluminum hop ups for the pulley and pulley shaft seeing as how that was a common part to strip out https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...228f89223.jpeg One of the future fun challenges is going to be how to place the electronics. This car has alot of room for several layouts of how to fit everything. Being that black carpet racing at my local club is clockwise, going to try a layout with the battery on the right side https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...2cfcb3b85.jpeg Noteably, building the 12 turnbuckles has proven challenging, but with easier with a caliper and a nose needle bent plier https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...86c94c87b.jpeg |
So going to try a touring car layout style which on this m1 kit is actually really well balanced left to right and the center of gravity is on the middle adjacent to the esc.
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...a886f42d2.jpeg Fortunately, the kit comes with ready to bolt on alternative composite battery holders https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...8a31d6ae9.jpeg What’s nice about this kit is that the chassis has battery tape holes already predrilled in the direction I need, though I did need to sand off the pieces a little bit for my chubby short lipo battery https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...293e012f9.jpeg |
Day one of winter testing for the Xpresso M1. To evaluate this car, I’ll be comparing it to my tamiya m07. Both cars will be running the same tires, esc, car setup, battery, servo and motor.
https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...8d953a453.jpeg The only differences for this test are fwd to rwd, chassis & body (due to wheelbase differences). https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...6c7af4b15.jpeg The test track is a high grip mid-technical carpet track in cold weather, so there will be plenty of grip and probably some traction rolls as well, so both cars front tires sidewalls are glued. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...a97f02e0b.jpeg Amazingly, the Xpresso M1 handled very well and was very slow with the stock gearing down the main straightaway. So I geared it up to 3.625 and then the car really shinned. It then was able to almost match my long time true tested winning Tamiya M07. With the M1 clocking in at 12.5 and the M07 at 12.4 on the scoreboard. This was a very delightfull first run of the car and with no breakdowns on the M1. I will be making some changes later but overall, a great start on carpet for this car. |
interesting battery layout.

Any update about this chassis? Are the layshaft and diff compatible with xq1? Any fragile areas from the car? |
