I think the RTR takes the fun out of it. Part of the fun is building the car and learning the ins and outs of every piece and how it works. Also you can choose the color and what stickers to put on it.

I agree, I always get a kit, I just get way more expirence and fun out of it if I can build it myself.

But if you are on a budget, RTR's are the way to go.

And about the TC4, I completely spaced that kit. Out of all of the RTR's I think I would choose that. I have heard some good things about them, and there are tons of hop-ups for them.

Yes, 4wd is what you want.

You said you have some friends that drift? Maybe you should talk to them, see what setups they are running, like tires, suspension, motors and so on.

those RTR kits are the exact same as the regular build it your self kit but it comes assembled and with a radio. You still need a battery and charger. I just purchased the Tamiya TA05 (belt driven 4wd) and my buddy got the TT01 (shaft driven 4wd). I've always owned Tamiya cars so I can't speak about the other brands. I'm very impressed with these chassis. They have specific drift tires, but many people use 2" ABS pipes over their wheels. I've been using electrical tape over mine.

Take Off RPD Drift tires are in stock at Schumacher USA. They are P/N: RPD and sell for $19.99 per pr.

samcook90,

Do you have a LHS?

If you do I would suggest going there. See what brands and parts they carry. If they carry parts for TC4's and TT-01's, which they most likely will, than go with one of those. See what car they have the most parts support for.

You don't want to be waiting for a week on parts to come throught the mail when you could run down to your LHS, get the parts, and be on your way.
