Indoors: Vegas
Outdoors: Reedy

I do agree with Rick about bringing kids to Vegas. Might not be the best environment for them depending on your views as a parent. I'm not a fan of kids in Sin City personally. But this is different than a family going to Vegas on vacation and dragging their 3 kids along with them through the casino. A 15 year old should be fine in my opinion.

Snowbirds and Cleveland don't run rubber tire classes. Vegas and Reedy do. Also the Ifmar Worlds you have to qualify for with your bloc. (I believe that would be EFRA for the UK)

I would say Vegas.

Me and my 13 year old son went to it and we both raced. Had a blast. Didn't seem to hhave much time in-between heats. Either fixing cars, setting them up, cutting motors & tires, watching other heats, or chatting to folks. Out of entire race, seemed like we only had a couple of hours of free time and for that we went to the buffet and chowed down.

I have been to 2 of the 3 most suggested races, and I would have to say each of them has a different flavor.

1. The Reedy is the best ASPHALT show on the planet. Great Facility, great racing, Great place.
2. Snowbirds... BIGGEST race in the world... in Orlando, so it is good for the kids.... the Birds are the Birds, there is no other race that deprives you of sleep they way it does....
3. IIC, never been, but I hear it is the best of the bunch...

The IIC no doubt about it. It is the best run event on Earth with the best competition. It eclipses all nationals, Cleveland, the Snowbird's even the World's as a racing event.

The Reedy Race would be second.

Thanks for the responses guys!

The IFMAR worlds in Italy is "by qualification" and in the UK they select from the modified class, Kyle runs 19T in the UK Nationals so is not eligible.

Looks like Vegas is the one to go for...just got to work out if it's feasable from financial and time off school perspective...but I have a few months to sort things out.

I understand that if your son does well during summer racing, you could have your son's sponsors (if he has some) write a letter to the school requesting he go to an 'international model car racing event' to 'represent England', etc., etc... it's worked before!

I haven't been to the 'birds or Cleveland but I imagine that racing at 7 AM to past midnight and having no time to sleep...might not be a good thing for your first international event. Not slagging either event off, all the big ones have their proponents but I'd say the IIC would be a great bet. Reedy Race is too hard to get into, I still don't agree with the lottery system (it's called "download the entry form and use Next Day Air", folks! haha) but is it a fantastic race, loads of Worlds A-finalists from around the world, great facility, great organization, etc. - it's just luck of the draw getting into it and you get all the same features indoors with the IIC.

Combine the Vegas trip with a family holiday:

- round trip plane tickets to Vegas
- off-the-strip accomodations or whatever deals you find online
- hire car (if you have several family members with you) or short plane hop (if it's just you and your son) to drive to LA/Six Flags/Universal Studios/Disneyland for a week

etcetera...with the exchange rate you should do really well, depending how many family members you take with you! Just remember to budget your gambling while you're in Vegas...or do the holiday trip first!
