Paul, you're not the only one. I had a long discussion with someone on the very same subject of just that one word when related to cells!!

Thanks for posting Mason, this is good news to hear, now I can finally go buy some batteries.

But I guess the 4200's are not legal it looks like?

Ernie, thanks for your well wishes... I wonder about my sanity actually LOL

Hey, I'm not saying its a perfect fit and the word nominal bothers me as well. Not putting all the ownership on IFMAR... but...

(in childs tone) THEY STARTED IT!! lol

Bad explanation, I know..

Red face

burby are you telling me that an IB cell at 1.207 @ 35 amps is not a better cell than a 1.20 IP @ 30 amps? if this is the case i think mathcers need not put labels on cells? were talking 1.22 at 30 amps for IB and 1.20 at 30 amps for a IP ..did you buy up all the paragon and start huffing it? now i am a sponsor whore no doubt but man o man even i would have a hard time telling racers that the labels don't mean sheot! i have had my ib packs for 3 months now and i'm still very pleased with on track performance. do they have color tv and indoor plumbing where you race? i respect your oppinions but dude...ip is still playing catch up as is gp .... this is going to be a long expensive year of oval racing if gp ib and ip play games all year long. errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Ernie,

GOOD POINTS...

Nominal... pre-approval... expecting conformance from manufacturers...LOL LOL LOL
SO WHAT IS NEXT?

A battery is not defined by its shrink-wrap, there are much more important factors that define a battery and IMO, shrink-wrap is the last... If we have to obey and go by standards, the standards need to be followed and not bent.
The shrink-wrap is used only to identify a cell without having to go to extreme measurers. We trust the suppliers and manufacturers to tag (wrap) their batteries with the correct shrink-wrap for fast identifying methods…that is it!

If a measurement and weight standard is set for the batteries, then let it be and go by it... but do not have an organization make exceptions that do not meet the specifications (or so called standards).

Legally, ROAR is setting a precedent that anyone that understands and knows business law can use to its advantage.

Ernie, take a good look at what they are doing, the precedent is there. Sooner or later, someone will takea dvantage of this precedent.
I can already see the loophole in the rules.

JUST AN OPINION…

Isaac

It is great to see multiple battery companies in the hunt.

Does anybody know where you can buy the IP cells?

Although I'm not interested in continuing this discussion as it would appear this could get rather situational, for some reason several people are under the impression that IP's are the only cells that came in over the 43mm during the approval process.

This is not so. There are several MFG's (not distributors) presented cells for approval that did not meet standards of a strict 43mm.

This is why IFMAR was forced into making a change and ROAR went to an advisory vote to the membership and ended up making a compromise that will have to suit this years (2006) competition purposes.

Weight will be a factor in the future.

As for exact measurements, I do not know these as I have not asked. (avoding the next post of what were the measurements of the cells presented) I trust the Technical Director of ROAR's recommendation and approval of these cells and I would hope we could all simply move on and leave the lawyer talk off of the track?

Gees....

Dawn - You are correct, this is a sport/hobby and let us leave the attorneys out.

I made the statement as a general observation without knowing ALL THE FACTS, and I stated that in my post.

However, when a sanctioning body makes decisions of this kind, they need to look at the big picture and the possible implications that can arise in the future. That is my main concern.

All the batteries that have been approved are very close to each other in performance and quality. It is now up to the three main players (manufacturers) to continue their R&D and provide us with better products as they have been doing.

I do not care about measurements or weights to be honest; I look at the overall performance of a cell and what I can do as an engineer to exploit the power of that cell.

Politics set aside, let all the approved manufacturers/distributors continue with their ongoing goals of providing a better product to the racer.

In no way did I imply that it is up to the attorneys to get the products approved. I just want to clear that up.

What is to prevent someone from running a higher MAH cell with a lower MAH shrinkwrap of an approved cell? Furthermore what would prevent a battery company from making a higher MAH cell and just saying it's the same cell as the already approved cell they make and just claiming they tweaked the same cell much like battery manufacturers do all the time?
