From what I've read on here, the 3800's are better cells. However, if they are unmatched, there's no way to tell what you're getting. I would think that the matchers sell the lower numbers as unmatched packs.

Matched IB3800's should be cheaper than matched GP3700's anyway.

both cells are good if you ask me. The IB3800 you will need to match them to know which are good and bad. I have been matching about 200 of the IB3800 cells in the past week, and out of the 200 batch i had only about 60 or so were pulling real good numbers the rest was avg.

i have about 8 cells which pulled bad numbers like 1.15-1.16 run time was great but just no power.

Avg volt i have been getting out of the IB 3800 and even the IB 3600 is 1.180-1.193 the good cells are pushing 1.197 to 1.24.

On the GP3700 i have been getting more consistent voltage numbers out of the bulk. out of a 200 cell batch the lowest number is 1.173 all were good (must have gotten lucky) nothing registered lower than 1.170.

The highest numbers i got out of GP3700 was 1.193 i have yet to see a 1.20 out of a GP cell.

All in all i don't think one is more superior than the other if i were to buy unmatched cells i would put my money on GP. If i were to buy match cells, then i would buy which ever has the highest numbers.

some testing info.
Matcher CE 4/35
Zapper Xipp
all discharged @ 30A
Charge @ 6A
cut @ .9
run time at 5000

FYI: those wanting to match batteries it's TIME CONSUMING!!! not to mention expensive.... i don't reccomend it!

When your friend telling you to buy those unmatched 3800.......how much are they actually cost..? Because if you are planning to spend like $50 for a good matched 6 cells GP3700...........on the return, you can spend like $35-40 for a un-matched IB3800 which is MOST LIKELY are NOT going to be better then your $10 more GP3700 (power and capacity BOTH)....

Now a day...unless your friend can hook you up a 6 cells IB3800 unmatch for $25......I would not think about unmatch packs. I brought some GP3700 matched from Brad at HURRICANE MOTORSPORT 1.18 for $45 (6 cells).......20 years ago, I think I paid $100 USD for Sanyo 1300 SCR Yellow matched 6 cells packs.

Oh...almost forgot to ask, you are racing or just running around with your friend....? If you are not going to RACE at all....voltage and amp and watt or matched no matched, zapped not zapped....DOES NOT matter....

MAtching doesn't matter anymore on bot accounts (3700's, and 3800's) there is no memory in the cells anymore and most vendors guarentee a minimum avg. voltage, as part of good QA.

The matchers are going to put the best cells into the $ packs. Whatever cells that dont perform are going to go into a stick pack so they can ge ttheir money back from their initial investment in the cells.

Were these numbers achieved after zapping?

Well allow me to clarify. Since this is an on-road thread, for those looking for the best batteries and cost is no object, matched "cream of the crop batties" is what you are looking for, I guess around $80 to $100 per pack. But based off the GP 3300's I have gotten in bulk this past year I have been very impressed with the quality, QA and consistensy of the cells. I would have to say based on numbers and actual driving that unmatched cells but together and just run rank up with your average hobby shop battery pack. My cost per pack last year was around $23 dollars. And again, unmatched packs are perfect for off-road racing, of modified sedan, I do see the need for the matched best of the best for on-road 19T and stock.
