What goes in doen't mean sh.t, what comes out under load is what's called capacity

All this doesn't really matter were with the 38's until next year, 07. At least the racers are.

But what about availability? If IB are gearing up to make 4200's on the line, how soon before 3800's become unavailable?

In a sense, the battery manufacturers are forcing the ruling bodies hands - club racers are going to be racing cells that are not legal at big meetings, and like someone already mentioned that has had an effect on entries to big races.

This 44mm rule seems to have opened a whole can of unnecessary worms... how are we supposed to fit these cells in the cars!

Racers aren't necessarily going to have to wait until 2007...if ROAR does go ahead and change the cell rule after their submission deadline, then GP and IB will have cells available BEFORE the start of the 2006 campaign which meet the new standard and should therefore also be allowed in...

Considering the voltage IR and runtime of the IB 3800 and latest generation GP3700 I would be surprised to see them go anywhere....I know I won't be rushing out to hack up my chassis for a knee-jerk reaction cell dimension change...not when the 3800's are already as good as they are...

The 3800 will still be in production for a long time since it is the cell which was submitted for ROAR approval. In Cleveland, Paul Lemieux ran IB 3800's and came off with 30-40 seconds every run. So having an extra 20-30 seconds more really isn't the advantage you might think. These cells do not obsolete the 3800's, despite what many may think.

i`ve been to hamburg by the way, i used to live in Bamburg, Pirmasens, and K-town (i was an army brat).....so you mean to tell me that the MAH # on the cell is the about that is discharged from the cell under load? i always thought it was the capacity it can take.

I can get 4900mah in my 3800 mah batteries, maybe I should design a decal and sell them as 4900mah.

You always lose some of the energy during charging due to internal resistance and some other forces that I do not yet understand, I do know for sure that a crappy battery can take way more energy to charge it than it can put out under a load.

Also Danny has posted that the new 4200 cell is the same size as the current 3800 cell, but may be 1 gram heavier. No mods required!
