Charging Cells while on the CAR

Guys,

I am running a Xray T1R with Saddle Packs, is it okay to charge the cells while sat on the car, or should they be taken out first before charging ?

Regards

Dave

You can have the batteries in the car or out. Its easier for me to have them in the car and batteries soldered in so i dont have to worry about putting them in the car connecting the battery up and rushing out on the track. As long as the batteries dont short out you'll be ok. When you have the wires connected you can charge them as well. but just make sure the esc isnt on.
If you have any other questions go ahead and ask. If you need more info that i didnt provide tell me. Hope this helps.

What I normally do is charge the batteries full on the bench first. Then strap then in the car and connect the ESC. Then 5 mins before race start I repeak the batteries while connected before going on the track.

Short answer to your question, yes.

It's probably a good idea to charge when they are already installed in the car. When I ran a Xray, I lost a few cells b/c I was trying to put a fully charged pack in the car. With the saddle packs, if you make a small mistake, the cells will short out in the slots. This is REALLY bad if you have a fully charged pack. If your pack has low voltage, then you won't do much damage if they short out.

Another important tip is try to get the battery to finish charging right before your race starts. Usually within 5 min of your race. You should be able to time how long it takes to charge the pack, and the number of races before your race starts. The more you repeak the battery the less voltage or runtime you get, the flatter it is (correct me if Im wrong). Thats with past expierence and past knowledge others have told me.
But yes, it is very important you dont short out a fully charged battery. You will have even bigger problems if you do and you will probably loose your battery.
