Serpent S411 Eryx 4.0

Dan, that consistency... Especially after a brush with the wall is worth it's weight in gold.
#77
Yes exactly! That's one of the good things they haven't tried to reinvent the wheel. All of the changes have been very welcome ones but as I said the car is very similar to the 3.0 setup wise so let's see what direction the 4.0 takes us. I'll be watching the team drivers closely to see what new things they start trying...

In reviewing many setups I see rear diffs are very lightly set. Mostly with 1k oil. Are you doing the same here? Any one experiment with heavier weights?
#79
I've never seen diffs set that light! I run minimum of 3k. I've gone as high as 10k at some very high traction asphalt events in Asia.

No. It's the same 3.0 vs 4.0. Don't get me started on that multiple 411 threads thing again! The 2 versions really aren't different to setup.
If you like ALOT of under steer go with a light diff. For me in 13.5 boost or modified which are my main classes I usually start 5k and go from there. That's regardless of 3.0 or 4.0. In fact even back when I was running the 2.0 car I still ran similar diff setup.

I see you talk about how the car is handling. I use 7000oil in my geardiff.
And you can visit www.andrefossto.wordpress.com and see how that might look like.
I will post setup from the video this week.

Diffs on Carpet
The Serpent diffs from the V1, V2, V2.5 and the early V3 diffs, depending on which seals where being used generally do not like the heavier diff fluids as the diffs, well, they just would not diff properly. The biggest handling issue is/was that you would get a marginal oversteer on exit off of corner. The diffs themselves would "feel" like they where running 3k to 5k heavier fluid over a xray diff.
With that said, also be wary that some of the setups posted have guys running Xray diffs over the stock Serpent diff, so just keep that in mind. (Pretty sure Cody Woods runs a Xray diff in his 3.0 car.)
The new diffs that come with the 4.0 car are really nice, I would compare them to the Xray diffs now, so I suspect diff fluids will start to show up running heavier compounds.

Same tuning window as the 3.0. I feel the car would benefit with a spring change and sway bar change over the out of the box stock setup, which isn't much. Car shows a lot off potential and thats running the aluminum chassis on carpet.

Chassis plates
So I was measuring the new chassis and the stock Serpent 4.0 chassis is the same width as the, no longer available, Avid chassis. The Serpent still has the milled areas, but the overal width is 82mm. This is quite a bit narrower than the 3.0 chassis as well. Just another thing to consider if you plan on converting a 3.0 to a 4.0.

I agree about the springs and bars. I never run serpent springs anyway. Never have since the 2.0. I also generally run the X-ray 1.3mm front and rear bars. The 1.4 is a bit hard and the 1.2 a bit soft so I'm forced to use the X-ray T5 bars. Spring wise I use HPI blue or silver mainly. Sometimes Ride 25mm Yellow or Green.

Any one try these set-ups:

Or see these??

I see here they used 8k diff oil.

True, i feel that it is easier throttle control with 7k instead of 5k oil in rear diff. But that is also dependant on size of track and driving style.
