Why "On-Road"
Before there was "Off-Road" RC racing there was "Road" racing. How did we somehow gravitate to "On-Road". Seems redundant. This didn't happen in full scale.

Makes sense to me. Off-road vs On-road. Looks clean and tidy ;)

Before 7' monster centers and AND1 ball handler point guards in basketball, there were just "basketball players" tossing a rubber sphere into peach baskets.
RC racing has evolved to the point where an 1/8 scale truggy and a 1/12 pan car are two distinct classes from one another with distinct characteristics that people appreciate. One can handle rough terrain and take jumps without exploding. One can turn on a dime and weave through technical courses like no other. Everything else falls in between somewhere. |
I don't like it as On-road racing. Seems redundant. Road racing would cover it. Offroad covers anything else.

I think you are just asking about the term "on road"....not comparing "on road" and "off-road". The term "on road" can be applied to road racing or oval racing, both of which are on road as opposed to off road. RC racing in the U.S. did start out as just road racing with 1/8th and 1/12th scale, but in the mid
80s RC oval racing came about with 1/12 and 1/10th. |
Road racing consists of lefts and rights. On-road racing is anything on a road type surface, no jumps and fast corners. Off-road has jumps and vehicles using long travel suspensions. I think the type of vehicle being used means more to the style of racing than the actual surface being raced on.
