A transponder holder.

By far not the best place for it. He must be very confident about his driving skills.

Cheers

sorry i wasnt too clear about that, i didnt mean that transponder mount, i ment that black thing mounted on the chassis, thats connected to his motor by the red/black wires, behind the motor. (at the angle the photos are taken its to the right/back of the motor)

I don't think that's a transponder either. I don't think you could power a transponder through the motor leads. I do think it's a Schottky Diode. Besides, look on the right side behind the batteries, there's a transponder mount right there.

He was 17........

He won 12th scale in 1988 at 18........ same as David Spashett I believe in 1994. I was an A-main marshall in 1992 and David was 16 and finished 4th.

1992 is also the only year that a driver won 2 of 3 A-mains and lost the World Title. Masami won 2 mains but they used combined times instead of finishes. Tony won on time basis.

Yes, I am that old school.

We still use that format in nearly all forms of racing here in New Zealand.
We believe it is a fairer method than using points.
