Default a great race

After taking the red eye back, taking a short nap, going into work, doing some chores/errands, I now have a chance to say

This was an excellent race, and was run great!

I especially want to say that I thought it was great that it was a reasonable, flowing layout. I think the sport would benefit from more layouts like this.

Yes, Stockton does have some 'less affluent' sections but they were still reasonable (I had no issue going to the donut shop on MLK Blvd for coffee multiple times). The Fairground was great with all sorts of events. Where the hotel (we actually stayed at the Residence Inn, just West of Rt 5) was further north, still in Stockton, on Marsh Road, had nice sections that would compare favorably to anywhere in the US. Best indicator, there was a line at the Starbucks all times of the day.

[QUOTE=Jack Smash]To ease some peoples minds.

Get real Robert. Cars get stolen everywhere. You don't have to start giving people reasons why their car isn't going to get stolen in your area. Yes, the central valley has a high car theft rate, but thats why we have insurance. It's unfortunate that it happened to people as nice as Mr. Novak. But, someone closer to us had his car broken into as well. His respone to that was, Oh well $hit happens, I gotta buy a new camera now. Just remember there is idiots everywhere. People should not worry much about this issue, no one got hurt, it's not that big of a deal and I'm sure they had insurance. People should stay focused on how great of a race they attened. Problably the best nats to date.

How can you say its not a big deal. One guys truck gets stolen and RC stuff was stolen also, along with three other peoples RC equiptment. I don't see how this can't be a big deal? I guess when you don't live in that kind of area, when it happens its a suprise. But when you live there, or a place like it, I GUESS you can think nothing of it?

Unless someone knows who the thief is, maybe it's time we dropped this topic and focused on the great race that was just run.

After all the problems last year, this year's race was a welcome event. It almost makes it seem as if ROAR is back on track. Except for the horrible qualifying points system!

Timmy. Do you actually live somewhere where things don't get stolen?

I've parked in "the ghetto" a few times and had nothing stolen, yet I've come out the door to find my car sitting on blocks in a very nice upper middle class neighborhood.

If you were a thief, why would you limit yourself to only low income areas. That makes no sense.

Sounds like the race itself was sweet, though.

Default Stockton was great, and the race was even better

Let's put it this way, I live in an expensive Boston suburb (actually next to the city with the lowest crime rate in the country in the last survey) and I had thoughts in my mind of retiring to Stockton (although mainly for the great RC racing around there...)

well its sad that this happened. It could of happened to anybody.
I am sure the people didnt know what was in the truck...
Now if this happened at the track, that would of been different because someone would of been going for the equipment not the vehicle...
Either way it sucks...

on another note--used foams for about 4 races before the nats and all I gotta say is that this was the last time I ever true foam tires again!!!!!!

Dont get me wrong, the race was run awesome... its just that me and foams didnt get along well....

Yes there are things stolen here, i'm sure the same as everywhere else. I live like 30 minutes north of Chicago. I guess its more that I don't here about these things happening. Just like if I wasn't online, I wouldn't of heard about this. I just don't think its fair for someone to say its not a big deal. Because you know sure as hell that if it was their stuff, it would have been a big deal.

actually Newton, MA (I couldn't afford to park in NYC).

Reading the earlier post about Bob Novak's truck, my best guess is that the restaurant they stopped at wasn't in Stockton. They were driving back to LA (around a 7 hour drive) and probably stopped on the way.

good one Barry...getting back to the unfortunate topic on hand...

Are there any photos / descriptions of items which were stolen.

We had a similar problem years back and gave the information to the LHS...believe it or not someone walked in with a few of the stolen products and we pressed him to get back as much stuff as possible. It wasn't everything, but at least the kid identified the person who he purchased the products from and we charged him.

Ray,

I don't remember off hand but I can tell you this...

The top 3 were brushed motors.

Juan, I think if you were my brother, who had $ 800.00 stolen out of his hotel room (The Comfort Inn, offical hotel of the ROAR Nats), I think you would have had a slightly different opinion. If you had $ 800.00 cash stolen, or $ 1500.00 of camera equipment and a broken car window, or your truck and all of your R/C stuff, would you still think it was no big deal ? I look foward to coming back up to Fremont for the TCS this year, but I would surely have second thoughts about racing in Stockton.

BTW - My brother had nothing but good things to say about the track and the event. It was just outside the race track that turned it into a very sour experience.
