Default Need Help!! FK04 or FK05

Hey guys i need some quick advice. I am just getting into electric on road and this will be my first season. I have recently bought a Xray FK04 as the car i will learn on, i plan to run stock mainly.

I am planning to buy the Novak GTB brushless system for my car so that i can use the brushless to practice and have fun with, but still use the same speed controller for my stock racing, i might run mod as well for the hell of it.

So i bought a used FK04 for a great price, and it came with some motors, batteries and spare parts. I was all ready to get it set up for the up coming season, until i went to my LHS and the guy i deal with there offered me his used FK05 $340, tax in with the battery strap, 3mm chassis, stock chassis, spring steel hexes, and aluminum c hubs in the rear. He ran it only twice and the car was mint, not a scratch anywhere to be seen.

So do you think i should stay with the FK04 or should i sell it and go with the FK05, i also plan to run outdoor electric next year as i am giving up nitro. I think the brushless will be very fun outdoor with the bigger track.

Oh and the reason i chose xray is because have a warehosue in our town so parts are easily accesible.

PLEASE HELP!!

You say you've been in to nitro RC, so you have some experience driving a car. If you had none I'd say stick with the FK04. Expect to get about $170 for the FK04, so if the price difference is worth it to you then go for it!

I say get the FK05 and keep the 04. Run one outdoor and one indoor. The 05 sounds like a steal.

well i can't really afford to keep both, and buy the the Novak GTB 5.5 brushless system i want to get.

I have raced for one season with nitro on road, and recently got into nitro buggies. So I have decided to race electric touring car indoor in the winter, and race nitro buggy, and electric outdoor in the summer. That way I only need two cars and can keep the cost resonable.

Right now i have a ofna 9.5 buggy, 2 serpent 705's, a micro rs4, a micro m18, and two FK04's

so i plan to sell everything except the buggy and one electric touring.

So i really need to learn from your expierences and see if i need to goto the FK05 right now, or should i just run the fk04 for now and maybe upgrade to a newer car later. or should i just do it now and benefit from the good price, and is it that good of a price?

thanks

Just for references sake

3.0 chassis alone is 60$ or so. Not to mention the spring steel axles and the alum rear hibs. I say ditch the 04 and grab the deal. Since your wanting to run carpet and asphalst with the same car the 05 with the two chassis will let you compensate more for the carying traction.

my two cents

I'll take that as a biased response , does anyone think the fk04 is good enough to run, ppl at my local track actually superior to the fk05 because of the battery and motor placement, seems more balanced.

does anyone have any pro and cons of both cars

THe FK04 is still a more than capable car.

I have yet to run my FK05, but the general concensus is that it has more steering - it's a more aggressive car. It should also be a bit more responsive with the weight more central.

My FK04 was very capable, but it just didn't change direction like the FK05...

I'm running exclusively foam on carpet with high-bite...the weight distribution of the 05 just seems to make the car transition quicker...I can see for some drivers how they would prefer the 04 though...

If you're planning on running mostly stock then the GTB may not be your ideal choice..especially on a narrow chassis like the FK05..the GTB ESC is a fair size, and it may be a bit of a chore to get it strapped in properly...

Ditto. With the right setup and good driving, the FK05 will also generate higher mid corner speeds due to the weight centralization.

I loved my 04 and the setup I developed (which was faster than a few 05's at first), but I could clearly see the difference in mid corner speeds and had to drive hard on corner entry and exit to keep in touch with the 05's.

As a somewhat beginner-you will really enjoy the balanced-unaggrssive feel of the FK04. I LOVE the 04. I have driven a few packs with the FK05 and I dont doubt its superiority in aggressiveness and snappy turn in, but the 04 is a dream to drive. As my buddy once put it-its a Caddilac with rip.

I'd stick with the 04.!! OH-and it is MORE than competant even at a big race.

So as a beginner do you think i could tell the differnce between the two, or fromt he sounds of it it seems like the 04 will be easier for me to learn on.

And windsor guy, the fk05 car I am thinking of buying actually has the gtb setup on it, good think is that i have the helios, so my receiver is super tiny. but the reason i choose the GTB is that i hear it is a very good brushed speed control as well as being a very quick brushless with the 5.5 motor. And eventhough it is a little bigger i am sure with some inginuity I can figure it out.

Please keep the comments coming, it is very helpful!
