Xray T4 2016

Im shocked it hasn't been standard equipment for YEARS already. pretty much everyone else sells their cars with them at a lower price point. sure they are not xray ecs but they do the same thing. as well if you maintain them.
not gonna lie though, the awsomatix ones with the screw on caps are pretty damn nice. it was tough to pick between the two cars. i might have got an a800 if not for so much local peer pressure heh.
would also be nice to get the kit with a choice of chassis rather than having to spend another $100 but meh. it is what it is.

I've had my '16 T4 to couple of our local club races and couple training sessions. We race on carpet and while I don't have anything to compare to I'd call it medium grip at best. Stock carpet setup was descent but main problem was that rear of car was sliding out very easy. So, I tried to make rear softer by removing rear sway bar, moving top of rear shocks all the way in and increased droop both rear and front to about 3.2mm. It's quite easy to drive it now when traction is right. I love driving it when everything feels right
So, some questions:
- what droop is everybody using? Stock setup when following downstop measurement, I got droop around 2mm which to me was very difficult to drive, car was sliding around. Does 3.2mm sound about rigth or way too much?
- I'm still trying to find best tire additive. Currently using Hudy Carpet Gripper with CPX2 carpet tires. Can there be such thing as too much additive? Last race I had feeling that one or two of first sessions grip was perfect, but in some of later sessions it felt as if I had less grip. I applied additive around 30-20 min before sessions (about 40-50 min between sessions) and it didn't dried until start. Could it be that tires are soaked with additive from start of day and you should put less at the end of day or maybe put it on only every second session?
- I had 34 pinion/84t spur. FDR 4.7. LRP X20 13.5t motor. With this ration driving was very fun, no sliding
But motor temperature was kind of high - 90C/195F. So, I went to 33 pinion. Which lowered temperature, but car was more difficult to drive as had to be more careful with throttle (which I wasn't). Others are even running FDR 5.2 so I'm thinking I have to go even lower on pinion. Any suggestion on how to calm down a car? I'm considering Expo and/or Speed on throttle in transmitter (Sanwa MT4S).

My setup is very close to base carpet setup, but depending on the traction, I will make slight adjustment here and there.
I am actually in the process of getting more steering out of my T4, I can't believe you can get it tail happy with stock setup.
Tire sauce can definitely be a problem. After you sauces you tire, initial few laps are gonna be very twitchy. You just need to run the "black" area in your track, once the traction is gained after a few laps, you should be able to push it.

I haven't measure the droop , but the down stop I am using is kit recommended F6/R5

I did extensive research before I bought my t4 16.
14 and 16 have different :
1. Sway bar mount, 16 sway bar mount has bearings, while 14 has the "traditional" mounting solution.
2. 16 could use active rear suspension, it is not widely used from what I see, but it is good to have that option.
3. I believe 16 has less max steering throw for higher comer speed compared to 14. I had a trf 419, and you will notice the t4 has less steering throw right away. The 419, imo, has way too much steering for my liking.
I think above all was all that matters to me. There is some other minor things I can't think of right now.
Dude, you should get a 15 or 16. You will be amazed.
Owing Tamiya is expensive, lol, I break at least 10 pairs of c hub after owning 419 for 2 month. While I only broke 1 c hub with my X-ray during 1 month ownership.
Not to mention, I was instantly faster with t4 on our track.

After reading all the posts, I am getting a 14 with the ECS. I will get a 16 if I become more advanced. I appreciate everyone's input. You guys really helped me out!!

Amazing kit even for a beginner.

Quick question. I've not ran TC since 2013 and not had an xray since the '11 so not overly xlued up on them ATM.
Do the lower diff housings with the bearing rollbar mounts from the 15/16 car fit on the 2014 car?
Cheers
Nick

What are people using to add weight? I have to add 50g to the car. I'm running a T4'16 w/Low Profile Lipo, Avid chassis, 30g centerline weight already installed. Is there any sort of brass plate to put under the battery that people are using?
First race day with the 16 and it was awesome...just like I remember XRay driving like.

I also placed 2 of those in front of the front mount on the rear arms, between the spur and the mount. You must use very thin 2-sided tape to place them there.
Additionally, I used the usual stick-on lead weights between the speed control and the motor, as well as under the swing rack in front of the servo and battery.

Another option as you mentioned if the battery is lightweight, would be a plate under that but I have not used that yet. Motiv has one available now.

Finally, there could be a much cleaner & nicer weight option available from Xray in the near future. Last I heard about a week ago they were working on something.

That's what I was looking for. It's a Fantom 5000mah pack...didn't have time to order a Motiv or EA pack.
Even after adding the 30g XRay weight, I still needed 50g...SUPER lightweight car. It was SOOO good though.
Floating servo mount or no?
