I run the mini z's quite often and eventhough I race exclusively on RCP, the cars hook up really well on concrete/asphalt as long as it is fairly abrasive. Smooth concrete hurts the front grip because of the rear wheel drive, but driveway concrete works pretty well (not the really smooth finish). If you build a track to run outdoors just make sure the surface doesn't have a lot of bumps and the cars hook up awesome. Tires do wear out, but hardly any more than they do on RCP. You could probably get away with an 8 deg rear and 20 front, they would wear but they are 4 bucks a pair. We usually chunk our race tires after 8 or so runs on RCP because once the tread is gone, they become mediocre at best. On concrete, the groves/tread makes no difference, hence tires can be made to last longer.

Default Thanks

Thanks, yours is the first encouraging post I have received about building a track on concrete.

My other thought is to try and avoid the whole industrial pvc pipe and 2x4 artifical temporary look of most tracks. I love the look of the big European 1/10 1/8 tracks and the Tamaya Reeedy Race track.

I along with the "industrial" I do not like the "we only have so much space so lets use every inch of it for race surface" school of track design. These tracks always have lots of 180 degree hairpins. I like the high speed flowing corners of real full size tracks.

Kyosho sells a kit with nice, red and white (candystripped) rounded corners and corner dots that you could use. I can't find a link now but if you post on minizracer I'm sure they could help you out...

Has anyone tried the Iwaver?

http://www.iwaver.com/main.asp

They seem to be more tunable than the standard Mini-Z

Wow, its been awhile since anyones been here. I woouldnt be here either if i hadnt've dropped my Skyline MA-010 today while moving something on my shelf. Long story short(ish), i cracked my main frame. The battery holder itself. So mini z parts and Atomic Mods.com came up. i just wanted to give a shout at Frank Rocha, who helped me today, and man, once hopped up these things really fly! so fellow mini z'ers what have you done to bullet proof your cars?
