BTW, I like mine alot. They are super stiff, and really light, and as a bonus they look cool too. You are supposed to be able to boil these wheels with no adverse affect, I have not tried it yet though.

spooky: you are right, you can boil these to get the old tire off with no apparent deterimental effect to the wheel. I am running my third set of tires on these rims!

Normally I would throw away the wheels, but once you get hold of these RC1 wheels you will understand why you boil them!!!

AE, that is 7-8 a pair from england. Take into account shipping and taxes..VAT I think. and I bet they are closer to hmm... 11 or 12 bucks a set delivered to the USA. I bought mine local for I think 10 a set.

The price Modeltech quotes is UKP 5.99 for a pair. Since you are ordering from the States you can deduct 17.5% VAT from that price. The only additional would be the shipping, but as already mentioned, these things are pretty light!! Email Mike at MT, he will be able to give you a better estimate.

VAT is only applicable if you buy and keep in the UK. If you export directly out of the country then they will deduct the 17.5%

This is one point to bear in mind if you are visiting the UK. When you buy (as a visitor) ask the shop if they are part of the VAT refund scheme, if they are then you have to fill in a form and show your passport (to prove you are non-resident). When you leave the country at the airport you will find a VAT Refund Counter, hand in your form and get your 17.5% back!!!

They do cost a little more in the USA because of shipping from overseas. They are distributed in North America (from Canada) via RC1 racing. That means they are shipped to Canada first (int'l shipping/customs/etc.). If you are in the USA you have to get them from a dealer who gets them from RC1 in Canada, which means another trip thru customs...and express international shipping fees.

In the long run, you pay about $11/$12 pair if you are in the USA. However, like everyone keeps saying...you can boil off the tires and it doesn't hurt the wheel at all. So after you put on your second set of tires...the value is apparent for such nice wheels.

True...to import from England, you don't pay VAT. However, throw in the International Express shipping and Customs fees...you can pay up to $20/pair if you buy a set for yourself. Use a LHS that carries them because they ship in quantity and get wholesale pricing which will allow you to buy them at a reasonable price.
They are worth it.
