Best sites and resources to explain how to tune your chassis......

I know this might have been done before but I figured I would help start a compilation of tuning information that helped me out BIG time. This thread is setup for anyone that knows good info or where to get it as well as people in need of a consolidated resource for tuning literature. I hope this helps someone out there :D

On-Road:

Off-road but still applies to tuning:

beware of looking at fredswain's advice in the
Camber links/ roll center:Tune With Camber Links section

his method do hold some merit but understanding of ride frequency is slightly misunderstood. Achieving the same front and rear ride frequency is a good starting point but not a absolute must. completely different ride frequency might sometimes be necessary due to pitch or roll characteristic dominating the handling of a chassis like front wheel drive minis.

this is quite old but still has very useful info, and its free

Thanks Tobyzhang, great input guys, keep it going. If there are any chassis tuning/ FDR related questions throw them in the mix. I cannot garuntee a correct answer but I'm sure everyone watching this thread can help out as well.:tire:

Speed calculator but also great for gearing/FDR. Fairly accurate.

Beware? That's a bit harsh. I wouldn't say beware. I've tried to be VERY clear that it's a way to get a neutral setting. You adjust from there. I gave up on that thread because too many people with too little intelligence couldn't understand such a simple philosophy. The only thing that people should beware of, in fact avoid like the plague, are pro setup sheets. Those are ALWAYS crap!!!

Pro Driver Setup sheets can be a bit helpful but misleading in a sense that every driver has a different driving style and what works for that pro at that track may not work for another individual/ track who is using the pro's setup. I myself have seen some guys be successful copying another drivers setup but have more often seen unhappy campers. I wouldn't say they are crap but would agree that they are not always the best choice. More often than not the box stock setup is the best starting place. As a past vehicle test engineer, I have seen months go by just to find the perfect setup for most scenarios
(military prototype vehicles) so I don't think twice when it comes utilizing a the stock setup before making adjustments to suit my needs and the track changes.

On another note, more info :D

Hey Fred, I've used your guides exactly as stated. It's a great middle starting point that the factory usually doesn't provide. They're too far off for all the surfaces I've run on. It would be too much wasted paper/ink for the manufacturers to disclose all the info you've provided in detail in an easy manner for most casual hobbyists to comprehend.

I've used your explanations and guides to help me setup as well as several others at the track I run at. Night and day differences when that logic is applied. Even got guys who never podiumed, get 1st place finishes in their class. These guys can drive, just couldn't setup for their driving style.

So it does work. Just take Fred's info as a starting point and work around from there. All the other stuff I've read is "supplemental" after figuring out how to set chassis axle frequency.

Thanks again for the tips and a new thread on setups. All helpful.

BTW, I've had to read Fred's articles over and over and over to understand his delivery in his guides. Just doing homework that paid off. It's just how we all process the info that makes it work.
