It depends on the track configuration in my opinion. When I goto the track, I bring 3-4 different bodies ( Mazda 6, Stratus 3.0 all purpose, Ride honda accord, and a dodge status 2.0-old school body ). If the track is fluid with high speed corners, i'll test between the Ride honda and the stratus 2.0. If track is short and technical, i'll compare the mazda 6 and the 3.0 stratus. The mazda 6 body is probably the most popular body used for the majority of all racers, but you should always keep your options open because there may be a better body than the mazda 6 per track configurations. Goodluck.

Outdoors I love the yokomo stratus type-E. It is quite a loose, low downforce shell, but in high grip conditions ( I know some drivers ran this at the worlds in florida, notably Billy Easton, Matt Francis and Chris Tosolini) the shell is awesome, providing infinite amounts of steering with the rear end grip. On some normal grip tracks it doesn't really work, however oddly I found it to work very well on a well-known low-grip track here in the UK (stafford) which I think is beacuse the shells areodynamics didn't really alter the cars handling characteristics as it has low-downforce, and the car was absolutely brilliant that weekend. I tried a shell I know to give very "safe" handling, making the car a bit pushy, but this provided no steering and at times too much, as the stafford track has different grip levels on every corner! The stratus type-E was least affected by this.

It's all a bunch of voodoo and hooey. I swear to god I'm gonna build a wind tunnel and test every modern body for drag-coefficient and regional downforce.

Just wait and see, each and every body will be within 10% of each other. I'd bet my life on it.

I have Tamiya Legacy B4 2.0, Stratus 3.0 Carpet and a Mazda 6. I have used all bodies and the Mazda 6 and Legacy are pretty similar but the Stratus is very stable and yes, bodies do make a big difference. My car was crazily twitchy just on the last club meet with the Mazda 6. I tried some chassis adjustments and the car was becoming more tame but was still very hard to drive. I changed body to the Stratus 3.0 Carpet and it was planted and if anything had slight understeer. This was on asphalt as well and I intend on getting a 3.0 AP and a Ride Accord soon as well.

yeah im sure in wind tunnel conditions, all bodies would be close becasue all that tests is high speed downforce going straight, what really matters is how the body handles the turns and where the percentages of the full downforce are being distributed throughout the car, if you understand what im saying.
