Dream asphalt tire set up...
So my local summer asphalt parking lot track decided on open tire this season. Excellent grip and prepped with Mt. Dew....
Just curious on what some would build... 1. Tire 2. Insert 3. Rim GO!! |
Timezone?

By the subject I thought we were talking spray carts.
Why bother with tire assembly? Premounts help simplify things. Solaris, Jaco or sweep all have good enough options... |
Sorry, please delete.

Sweep or AlphaRC premounted GT8 tires, cuz electric GT8 is the only class worth running on asphalt. :ha::smile::tire:

On our track here in Edmonton, Muchmore Absolute 28's work just as well as anything you can buy or build. They hook up and last a long time.
Personally i am building a Sorex setup with Sweep Nylon rim Sorex rubber 28 and 32's Black inserts |
I like it.
I know premounts are the majority out there but think it would be cool to try different stuff.... must br the offroad side of me. |
I like Rides and Sorex. I do both premounted or mount myself ...depends on what deals I can find.
Obviously experiment w/ firmness and temperature of the tire ...how hot the track is will determine this. |
The black schumacher inserts that are popular with the sorex 28's....I can't find any info on them other than that they are black. Are they thin/thick, hard/soft, wide/narrow?

There are many decent pre-mount options available - allowing an open tire rule during a period of declining interest in on-road racing is total lunacy... The cars are already too complex and changing too quickly for most racers to keep up; taking the one item most responsible for a car's handling and making it another tuning variable doesn't seem like a good idea...
That said, for a parking lot environment (and the fact I'd never voluntarily mount a set of on-road tires) - I prefer the MuchMore Absolute tire. 28s when it's cool, and 32's in warmer weather. |
Unless it's really cold out, I'd go with Sorex 36.
Usually parking lot tracks are more forgiving than an indoor carpet track with hard barriers, so I'd probably just buy Schumacher Sorex premounts. Either Red insert or Yellow insert. If rim breakage became an issue then I'd build my own using sweep "unbreakable" nylon rims. In open tire racing, using anything other than Sorex is typically a waste of time and money. Muchmore are okay, but their rims are the absolute worst. |
sorex 36
hara V2 med inserts speed mind spoke rims |
Sorex 36R, yellow inserts.
