Default New to the R/C On Road Touring

Hello,

Name is Aaron, I just purchased the Apex Qualifier series from Team Associated. Loving the car so much I decided I wanted more power. I decided to pick up the Castle S3 5700KV. paired with a 2S Lipo 5300mah. Not to competitive just wanted to have some fun! I will be installing it this weekend. Any pointers would be handy! My neighbor is an avid R/C guy and is a great person to have around. Anybody know the FDR of this car or where can I go to find it?

Kit pinion is 28T
Kit spur is 66T
Internal ratio = 34/13 = 2.615384
So by my calculation kit FDR = 6.16

Watch out -- 5700KV is too much for the kit ESC. It is rated for only 3900KV on 2S and 3300 on 3S. I haven't tried it myself, but I hear the kit 3300KV on 3S is crazy fast enough.

Good luck whatever you decide and have fun with it!

edit - post above has the right info... 6.73:1 is the FDR achieved using a 72 tooth spur...

Thank you for the info! I should have been more specific. The castle set I bought has the ESC and Motor.

So with the Castle S3 motor, What Spur and pinion gear would I need?

Had my neighbor install the motor and ESC to make sure it was all correct and a clean install. We are using the 72T Spur gear paired with a 25T pinion. I clocked the car at 39mph. Does this sound correct for a 1/10 on road touring with a 2s LiPo 25C 50C Burst 5000mah?

I calculate the theoretical max with that setup at 40.75 mph, assuming 63.5mm diameter tires, so you're pretty close. But, you could be lugging the motor just a bit... your motor temps will tell you more if you can measure them after a three minute run. If too hot, you can take the pinion down a tooth or two to see if that helps.

The other question would be acceleration... top speed might not give you the fastest run if it takes too long to get to it.

The tires I am using are 62mm 28 Degree Sweeps. Top speed isnt my overall goal. I can run an entire battery and can touch the motor without being burned. Thank you for the feedback! Still need to do some tuning with the castle link and go from there!
